Any Information On Hepatisis B by omoba2k2: 8:17am On Apr 18, 2020
Have read a couple of threads on HIV in recent times like https://www.nairaland.com/5799792/having-hiv-not-death-sentence and https://www.nairaland.com/5795526/how-found-out-hiv-positive/1 which i must say have been very insightful. But i'll like anyone in the house to also share in formation in regards to managing HBV that is Hepatitis B virus which is also common and majority don't know that they are carriers. Any info is welcome. But from what i know, once you have HBV you must stop taking alcohol and smoking. HBV causes inflammation of the Liver that lead to many Liver related diseases.

Hepatitis B is transmitted in a similar way as HIV. Through bodily fluids, blood and blood products.

The infection could go two ways. One is that the body could fight it off and become immune to it. This happens in about 90% of cases. That means if 10 people develop hepatitis B infection, 9 of them will clear it.

However, the remaining 10% of people will have persistent hepatitis B infection. This is called chronic hepatitis B. The problem with chronic hepatitis B is that it can result in shrinkage of the liver (Cirrhosis), leading to liver failure or cancer.

There are possible treatment options for chronic hepatitis B. If you or someone you know has this condition, you will actually need to see a specialist gastroenterologist or hepatologist or virologist. Please don't try to treat it by yourself.

I hope this helps.
