Borno State has recorded its first death from the COVID-19 pandemic, SaharaReporters has learnt.

The deceased, a retired anaesthetic nurse, died at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital on Saturday.

“The first COVID-19 death has been recorded in UMTH, Borno State.

"The deceased was admitted in Medical Ward III last week and died under suspicious circumstances which led to a test being conducted on the corpse and the result came back positive for COVID-19.

“The bad thing is that he had contact with several health workers both within and outside UMTH. He was brought from Pulka to UMTH by two nurses which are also now at risk together with their families.

“Last night, after his demise, female friends, relatives and other mourners gathered in his house to visit his family members who can be classified as direct contact to the deceased.

“And the worst of all is that he was staying in USUMH staff quarters which is within the hospital premises, thereby exposing more health workers and patients as well,” a source told SaharaReporters.

It's a matter of time, the whole north may become epicentre of the deadly virus if drastic measures are not taken on time.

This might just force the inevitable split, cos I see no way this thing will die down in the north...even Lagos will get over it but you see those deaf guys in the upper part of the map. After the Southern Nigeria is done dealing with the pandemic, they there will be having tough time due to their unhygienic way of life and disobedience. So will our schools down south be waiting for Abokis to recover so srudents who come from there can resume school along side we here??

Shekau should brace up, COVID19 will find him at sambisa forest.

This virus should just spare the north east. That region have been battling with a deadly terrorist group for over 10 years.

Covid-19 + Boko Haram = {I lack word(s) to describe the answer} undecided

So, a patient was being treated and the health officials didn't find out he had the virus until he died?
If this story is true, then we are working towards Melina Gate's prediction coming to reality.

These are those that refused to obey the social distance order.

The way Aboki or Abochi people disobey order is second to none.

Upon all the powers, stolen billions and manipulations that their man Abba Kyari had in Aso rock. Look at his grave like that of squerel hole in the Bush. Not upto 3 meters deep.

I expected to see his red cap inside the grave too..

This is a lie. It has to be a lie. A Northerner died from the virus? In the north of all places? If any aboki enclave becomes the new epicentre, we can kiss this year goodbye. Lockdown forever!!!

you may be right.

Someone was talking about relaxing the lockdown, I told him the battle is still on that despite the lockdown, we just got to the over 500 mark after since the first case compared to others. But the battle is yet to be won. We need to understand that any error now will be devastating than we ever imagine. Let's continue to stay safe, that is our little contribution but if things goes wrong, how forever careless government must pay for all their errors so far.
