Update! Woman’s House Finally Begins to Crack Inside as She is Trapped by Lockdown in Owerri (Photos)

A stitch in time, they say, saves nine. There is still time to avert the most disturbing tragedy that is likely to strike in Owerri Imo Sate, if only philanthropists or the state government can take prompt action to save a woman and her two children.
Here’s the story.

Tragedy is about to strike in Owerri, Imo State capital as a woman whose house has been hanging over a gully erosion site is about to experience her worst nightmare.
The woman who lives in the collapsing house with her husband who is physically challenged and their two children, has been calling on the state government for help yet to no avail. She has been screaming for help since June 2019 when the gully erosion began to threaten her house but no help came from the government at that time.

She took Massmediang into the house to see the extent of damage. What our correspondent saw was shocking and very scary.

The house has started cracking from the inside. The dining area is about to fall off, and it’s definitely going to pull the roof along.

The woman told Massmediang that the past government in the state had sent officials to see the level of damage done by the erosion but nothing was done; That was before the building started cracking as the rains began to fall this year.

Today, with the partial lockdown and dusk to dawn curfew in Imo State, the woman and her family are in danger of getting trapped in the house once it collapses.

“We have done our best to cry to the state government. Different media people have come here but nothing has been done,” she told Massmediang.

“We are calling our state governor, Hope Uzodinma to come to our rescue. My husband is physically challenged. He has done his best but this one is beyond us. Please governor come and help us,” she added.

The building is located at Nwosu Estate, off Works Lay Out, Owerri, Imo State.

OP please advise them to help themselves by leaving before disaster strikes if government is not willing to help her

We have bad roads, bad drainage, bad buildings all the time... It's not everything the government helps with biko. Let them leave before its too late. At the end of it all, the lost lives are the real unfortunate people. It is well.

It's possible they've never heard the term Force Majeur, or perhaps they were already informed by the officials who inspected the house but still they opted to tow the path of naivety.

As much as I feel some sympathy for their situation, I don't see how government can be liable for loss of the property itself due to erosion/flooding.

What government would have been able to do (assuming the house wasn't built on an area designated as drainage), was to redirect the flow-path of the erosion..but that's about it.

Sad as it is to admit, the house is pretty much lost.

This was in the news some time ago, does it mean that the authorities ignored it? I wonder how this woman and her family sleep with their two eyes closed.
