Chelsea Players Accepts 10 Per Cent Pay Cut by Nobody: 1:26pm On Apr 24, 2020
Chelsea players accepts ten per cent pay cut from their salaries following moves from head coach Frank Lampard and director Marina Granovskaia who both accepted a 25 per cent pay cut.

The strong unity that has hovered on Chelsea since Frank Lampard’s arrival as the head coach was on display again as the entire first-team players accepted the proposed 10 per cent wage cuts, regardless of the fact that there are no laid down plan on how to make up for their lost money.

Late last week, captain Cesar Azpilicueta, on behalf of the entire first-team, negotiated a 10 per cent wage cut during the covid-19 crisis. He then held show down discussions between the stars over WhatsApp, and the Chelsea player were swift to reach the agreement.

The response of the team was sent through text by Azpilicueta to confirm the wage cut. The duration of the cuts are expected to be for four months starting from May through August.

According to sources, the first-team were not interested in preparing any clauses that helps the player recover money.

This move was hugely helped by the fact that head coach Frank Lampard’s and director Marina Granovskaia’s decision to take a 25 per cent pay cut. Reports has it that head coaach Frank Lampard wasn’t part of the negotiations between captain Cesar Azpilicueta and the Chelsea chief’s.

In addition, the cut will save Chelsea £10 million over it’s duration and the players understood a need for the club to make savings after recently announcing a £96 million financial loss.
Similar situation has occurred in Arsenal fc and unlike the case with Chelsea it has produced an opposite response from the squad with Mesut Ozil and two other members of the first-team refused to take a 12.5 per cent cut despite being reassured of getting a £100 000 bonus if they qualify for the Champions league either this season or the next. They are also expected to receive a 7.5 per cent return if they qualify for the Europa League.

Meanwhile Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has praised head coach Frank Lampard’s man management and attributed the turn around in his relationship with the fans to him. The Italian midfielder who has been drawing interest from Juventus lately reiterated the fact that he is happy in London and according to his agent is more likely to sign a new contract extension with Chelsea.

Chelsea fc has had an impressive campaign so far and they are currently placed 4th in the Premier League table despite loosing their best player, Eden Hazard and had been hit with a summer transfer ban. Head coach Frank Lampard who has exceeded expectations believes that the club is moving in the right direction and will soon reach the levels of Manchester City and Liverpool.
