8th January 2011 PRESS RELEASE: Insecurity in Nigeria
Save Nigeria Group Global (SNG) UK notes with distress and concern the current state of insecurity in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In the space of 10 days over a hundred Nigerians have been killed and wounded in indiscriminate bomb attacks against places of worship and in social gatherings.
These wicked acts are marked by the fact that there is no attempt at warning and is targeted at unarmed and defenceless individuals.
We also note with concern the murder of human rights activists in addition to the depressing litany of kidnaps and armed robberies in the south eastern states of the Federation as well as the completely disproportionate use of force during anti militant operations in the Niger Delta

Save Nigeria Group UK wishes to state clearly that these are acts contrary to the laws of God and man and we would wish to see the perpetrators, their sponsors and protectors brought to justice.

However we wish to add two additional points, the first is in reference to justice, law and order. It is the primary duty of a government to safeguard the lives and properties of its citizens. The Nigerian government has consistently failed to protect Nigerians from harm due to the selective nature of law enforcement in Nigeria. Many a time Nigerians will be told that the sponsors of certain criminal acts have been identified or lists of godfathers captured in militant camps, only for these names never to be released much less the individuals investigated or charged. Too often we have seen the rich and powerful come to trial and extricate themselves with the most ludicrous and lenient of plea bargains.

This culture of impunity is the reason why crime and now terrorism is now so profitable to certain individuals. In order for Nigeria to be secure we must have strict adherence to the law. It is extremely depressing that nobody has been charged or tried for the murders of captured Boko Haram suspects in Borno, the same as the failed amnesty in the Niger Delta, virtually all the militants named the politicians who sponsored them yet not one of them has been arrested or tried. Thus we have the situation whereby the Nigerian government has sown the wind in Borno and the Niger Delta and reaped the whirlwind in Jos and Abuja.

The second point is the unfortunate politicisation of the issue of crime and terrorism. In virtually all countries with a problem of terrorism and militancy there is a consensus amongst all politicians that the safety and sanctity of the state trumps partisan point scoring and they present as united front on the issue. It is extremely disappointing that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria would attempt to link an uninvestigated crime such as the Independence Day bomb attacks with a political rival without any evidence. Likewise we note that Atiku Abubaker who has already identified himself with a single segment of the country has used the deaths of his fellow Nigerians to score points against his political opponents rather than call for peace and unity.

We at Save Nigeria Group UK call upon all politicians, political parties, religious groups and socio cultural organisations to recognise that this is a zero sum game and its in non of our interests for these acts of terror to escalate
With this in mind we at Save Nigeria Group UK:
• Call upon all politicians, political parties and aspirants to adhere to a code of conduct in relation to these acts of terror and the upcoming election and eschew any divisive, regional, partisan or sectarian statements and act and communicate only in terms of the national interest
• Call upon the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to clearly delineate between the legitimate aspirations of the citizens of the Niger Delta and Northern Nigeria and the terrorists who purport to act in their name by engaging in confidence building measures to promote moderate thought and practice in Northern Nigeria as well as improve the standard of living in the Niger Delta
• Call upon the Honourable Minister for Defence, Police Affairs and the Attorney General to personally guarantee that the rule of law will be adhered to in the investigation, prosecution and sentencing of any suspects
• Call upon the President and Commander in Chief as well as the Minister of Defence to again reiterate the provisions of the Law of Armed Conflict and International Humanitarian Law to all members of the Nigerian Security Forces and take immediate steps to begin remedying the root causes of the Niger Delta problem

We stand together with all Nigerians, Muslim, Christian, North, South, East or West in striving for a better Nigeria
May those wounded, affected or bereaved by these acts remain in our thoughts and the souls of the departed Rest in Peace

Yes o, Nigeria is really the happiest place on earth. . even amidst clashes and bloodsheds, our president saw the need to declare Jumbo Bonuses--- who says we can't party with an extra kobo even if our farms are set ablaze and our streets littered with bombs ? ---hell, we can always blame that on Demons!

We don't need a save Nigeria group, as Nigerians, if we get pushed to the wall, we simply scream a little, and keep moving----another bomb goes off and we read the usual
