It is very very pathetic. CAN must do something about this. But to tell you the truth, many pastors and churches do the same thing in different ways. Some will say, "sow seed for this." strike a covenant with God for a certain amount. Some can collect up to six offerings in a service, and the way they do it with such arrogance. It happens and continue to happen.
These days pastor Chris is becoming very unpopular which is not good.
Re: Church Gate Fee: Pastors Condemn Oyakhilome by OmoOlorun: 7:35pm On Jan 10, 2011
@X-Factoria. God is capable of defending himself. Moses did was seemed wrong in the eyes of the public. He was condemned by his siblings. God descended on them with punishment. Miriam became leprous, Aaron was spared because he was the high priest. Let the one who called Pastor Chris deal with him. You talk so much as if you are a saint. If you are not 100% sinless, you are treading on dangerous grounds. God is watching all of us in this matter to see how we apply scriptures. If it was in this age and time that people brought all their earnings to church like in the days of the Apostles, people like yourself would go wild in the press. Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:1-11 held back part of their takings on a land sale and it was considered lying to the Holy Ghost. They were struck dead on the spot. What would you call that in this your jet age? You cannot be smarter than God. Let Him defend Himself, let Him call Pastor Chris to question. I would stay out of the firing line if I were you.

BE WARNED:
If you do not know what to say,
if you are not a member of the church
if you do not know why the money was collected,
then keep your mouths shut.

What right has anyone (anointed or not)
to pull down the work of God.
Is the church divided against itself?
Has this Pastor criticized your life or church?

If you have a case against anyone, the Bible commands that settle the matter with the person first.
Do convict yourselves as murderers by back-biting against God's anointed.
Muslims also have issues within themselves but they handle them respectably and away from public embarrassments.

Luk 17:1 - 2 "Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe [unto him], through whom they come! It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. "

Mat 18:14 - 17 "Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.
Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
But if he will not hear [thee, then] take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell [it] unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. "

It appears you don't know Pastor Chris, well let me help you out. Pastor Chris gives in millions of US dollars to the cause of God not only in His ministry but also in other ministries both within Nigeria and around the world just to advance the gospel of Jesus Christ. N25m is not even something he can give out for the cause of God, maybe he can give that out for charity as he did some time ago at Benin where he gave one of the attendees N3m during the programme.
In fact the same 31st Night event was aired on major networks in Nigeria (including the expensive AIT) and outside the nation such that 250 countries in total were covered. I guess you are already thinking of some billions spent right now.

Pastor Chris who while ministering some years ago, someone walked up to him kneeling down in reverence and gave him a cheque of N500 million on the spot. That man of God is mightily graced of God. So personally, he has nothing to do with the money. By the way, most members of the ministry are used to sowing seeds (special givings for the cause of God) so they were just comfortable with it because they know that apart from the expensive broadcasts, setting up the hall to international standard cost hundreds of million (naira) so a thousand naira from them is not even a sacrifice. Maybe strangers (first timers were those who were uncomfortable with it) but there were several surrounding centres around the hall that no ticket was required but I guess everybody just desires to see Pastor Chris face-to-face. I've actually been in that hall when it was packed beyond capacity and if not for the central AC, there would have been a lot of casualties. In fact, I just remembered, even with the AC a lady actually fainted and was quickly rushed out of the hall.

As for Pastors criticizing Pastor Chris, I believe God is watching and hearing them.

Spot on. I always pray for God to give him the grace to keep on. Those in the media industry know what it takes to have a 30 sec jingle on air. He may not have been aware of the fee.

Most times, when government parastatals fail to deliver, we blame the "federal government". Meanwhile, there may be some dudes in such parastatals who are being bureaucratic.

I love Pastor Chris. He who hath sinned not, let him cast the first stone.

You guys don't get it! This guy is not a Christian but an entrepreneur who has cleverly identified a gap in the Nigerian market place, the deep thirst of our people for spiritual comfort. He provides this with his own gimmick as they all do. To call him a man of god is an insult to all true and sincere followers of the teachings of Christ. Why is it that all these guys are stupendously wealthy? Private estates, expensive cars and private planes, I really don't understand why nigerians, who are some of the most intellectually sophisticated of the all Africans, feel the need to enrich him because he knows how to pray or prays in a way that impresses people. I think these people will disappear off the scene should the government start taxing their huge revenues and income.

You know one thing that amazes me about us Nigerians we leap before we look. I have read all the comments both by the pastors and others and I came to the conclusion "May God help us in Nigeria" I am absolutely against the idea of the toll, there is a more civilised way of getting things done. However, in a nation where accountability is a crime a lot of things prevail. Pastor Chris is a man of God and I love him dearly but he needs to take some drastic actions to correct some goings on in his church.
I also think that you can make your comments without sounding sarcastic. Deal with the issue at hand and do not insult the persons of the people at hand. As for the pastors that spoke only Pastor Abiara is wise. Do not give judgment on another man of God. You have to remove the log in your eyes before you cna help someone that has a speck in his eyes

These so called Men of Con, oh sorry God will stop at nothing to continually fleece gullible & pliable nigerians who are notoriously religious and always in search of instant miracles of their hard earned money.
One of these days, the truth about these men of con shall be laid bare for all to see.Won't be long.

The point here is poverty has blinded Nigerians, Pastors Chris does not own the gospel so what in the name of hell did he collect money from the people? If truly he does not know as clams by some people then let him return the gate fee to the people that paid or quit been pastor cos that is an act of public stealing, I talk my own ooooooooooooooooooo
Re: Church Gate Fee: Pastors Condemn Oyakhilome by OmoOlorun: 10:45pm On Jan 10, 2011
The following post is from JoAgbaje. I believe he is a member of the Church and has the true picture of events.

Could it be true that Christ Embassy charged N1000 gate fee for their end of the year Watch night service because there were too many people who came for the service? How much did Jesus charge from the thousands who thronged him? I choose not to believe this story, perhaps PM News got the information wrong.

Quote from: noetic16 on January 05, 2011, 11:16 PM
please tell me this is a joke where is joagbaje?

It's not about charging people because many people came, that will be like taking advantage of people. The idea is to discourage people and reduce the attendees . The venue served as a studio where the programme is broadcast live. And it can't take all the people. The church has several centres all over Lagos where people were encourage to go and participate through satellite , they don't have to pay to enter those centres , even some of them are close to the main venue for people that lives arround there , so that they don't have to go too far to attend a centre ,and they are all free. The church also pay for all tv stations to broadcast it live so that people can stay at home to watch. So it's only the studio centre that was ticketed to reduce attendance there and to ensure each person has a sit without overcrowd. People were encouraged to attend the free centres or stay at home and participate by satellite. The studio broadcast is beamed world wide and it will be embarrassing to have crowd problem witnessed world wide live. A studio has to be controlled.so the idea is that everybody must not come over here. It can only take about 20- 25,000 or so. But members are well over 100,000. If you make the tisket free, every body will get. So the idea is to discourage attendance there may be stampede. We had trouble in Uk with crowd in the last crusade there.

Besides we have seen people organised Christian conferences that people pay to register,or Christian music shows that people pay to attend. So it is not like taking advantage of people. If it's about money, then every church would have been mandated to issue ticket all over the world. Some churches used stadium as centres . More money would have come in.

I honestly don't want to judge Christ Embassy but no matter d circumstances they were probably in, it was wrong to have deprived the poor of the goodwill messages of Christ.

To be, it is high the government started levying tax on some of these churches. Basically speaking, churches are classified as non-profit making but the way things have turned into in many of our "churches", it is now a massive profit-rolling business empire. Now the question, why shouldn't Christ Embassy pay tax on the money they made on New Year eve since the church is no longer different from the commercialised NTA?

guys, WWJD? yea, what BLW Church did ws wrong but 'he who is without sin should cast the first stone'. let us look for ways of praying our country out of this mess instead of wasting tym 'crucifying others' when we are nt beta ourselves. Re: Church Gate Fee: Pastors Condemn Oyakhilome by rockisback: 12:32am On Jan 11, 2011
The solution to this is for government to start taxing this "entertainment company" or "church" just like any other business.
Re: Church Gate Fee: Pastors Condemn Oyakhilome by Nobody: 12:42am On Jan 11, 2011
What is all this shouting about?? People paid 1000 naira to watch a man perform on stage (believe me, it has nothing to do with Christ or God). Pastor and his cohorts never forced people to pay, they paid to enjoy the show. The first people to blame are the members themselves because they are guilty of foolishness and foolishness is a sin. Pastor can also be criticized for outright deception.

Religion in all ramification is always geared towards materialism.

To all religionists: You don't need any person to mediate between you and God, God is within you and you have the ability to reach Him without external aids.
Re: Church Gate Fee: Pastors Condemn Oyakhilome by olu77(m): 1:07am On Jan 11, 2011
I am not a member of Christ Embassy but I have come to discover that the news paper, the pastors and the commentators here are just too harsh and full of judgment. I don't know why we Christians just don't like one another as though Christ is not one. Some of the Journalists will soon be called by God and be elevated to become like pastor Chris then they would know the effect of deliberate, negative reporting. Meanwhile some so called men of God are just too angry, full of beef that they are fast becoming stumbling blocks to others. This is the reason why many churches are empty because the pastors are too harsh, without love and quick to judge.

Try to understand my point I am not saying the action of Christ Embassy was right but two wrongs can not make a right.  It is glaring to everyone that a lot of other men of God and commentators from other churches are over reacting and abusive over this matter.
Re: Church Gate Fee: Pastors Condemn Oyakhilome by Tapiya(m): 2:01am On Jan 11, 2011
When people talk about control, I have attended free parties that fees were not charged yet the crowd was controlled, what about have people RSVP before the events and give them the invitations for free? or since you know people are going to come from other parishes and you know the capacity your church can accomodate, then allocate seats for those that will register for the watch night service and have the rest watch from the satelite churches? there was no need at all for any gate collection, the church was built from the people's offerings and tithe, and for those saying Pastor Chris gives money to other Ministries, does the money come from Pastor chris' pocket ? is it not from tithes, offerings and maybe thanksgivings and seed faith that he receives from the members of the Church ? Pastor Chris as far as am concern does not have any money that belongs to him, everything he owns belongs to God (that is if he is serving God) and the ministry, and the Ministry is not Pastor chris' but God's so lets stop making room for excuses and accept that he made a mistake.

We should all take it easy and wait to hear from Christ embassy before judging, i believe there must be a reason for it but charging before fellowing with Christ is unbiblical
Re: Church Gate Fee: Pastors Condemn Oyakhilome by swiftycool(m): 5:19am On Jan 11, 2011
For many years Nigerian christians have continued to remain on one spot without any advancement whatsoever and for many years to come, many will still continue to do so . . . . Pastor Chris has a ministry that feeds millions all over the world with the word of God, he is passionate about getting the word to the ends of the earth which is televised all over the world in real time on satelite TV, open air venues, large viewing centres and so on. This cost billions!

Ignoramuses on this site keep talking trash about him making money from the stuff and this really makes me laugh. Last year Christ embassy spent billions of Dollars to keep the loveworld channel on  satelite TV, develop various internet sites, produce Loveword musicians, ministry materials, send food aid and materials single handedly to Hati till today, reach many more countries in continents of the world especially Asia and even the Middle East with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, packed out the O2 Arena (the biggest in the UK, where even Michael Jackson could not pull such a crowd) till many had to be sent back due to UK Health & Safety regulations,  advanced the production of ministry materials given free books to millions of people monthly,  provide free accommodation and care for the healing ministry visitors as well as build up impoverished lives through the inner city mission programme. Where do u all think this money comes from? Heaven or his pocket?

The members of Christ embassy are not baby Christians like are abound in many churches and are quick to respond to the call from God when needed for the advancement of the gospel of Christ. Here in the UK and all over the world on 31st night, Christ embassy venues and all hotels and veiwing centres were packed full with people watching the cross over service in real time on screen just because these people in Lagos church paid N1000 for the spread. Result- in one night, hundreds of thousands gave their lives to Christ all over the world just because of that giving.

Romans 8:19  says All creation waits in eager expectation for the manifestations of those who are the real Sons of GOD. and it is by their actions in desperation for the spread of the Gospel and greater works that you shall know them! Those who gave especially out of lack for this purpose are the ones spoken of, watch them increase while you critics remain in one spot! I ask Of what use is your money if the work of God is left undone?!!

Re: Church Gate Fee: Pastors Condemn Oyakhilome by swiftycool(m): 5:40am On Jan 11, 2011
As per the other ignorant ones talking nonsense about pastor Chris launching "his own" social networking website, i laugh. Yookos website was asked for to be developed for the advancement of the gospel through the internet which is the rave of today, some SONS of GOD responded. The developers are young men and women, boys and girls like you who decided to put their talents and knowledge to the creation of a platform for God's word! The website is owned and run by that team of dynamic entrepreneurs NOT Christ embassy. The need arose due to the over subscription of followers of Pastor Chris on tweeter causing a continuous crash! why? Because many more people are hungry for the word as in the times in the City of Ephesus in the Bible  "So mightily grew the word of God and it prevailed!"

Instead of joining ignorant people that mock God's people and accumulate curses for themselves, i urge you to answer his call to be a part of what he wants to do in this generation, he needs you, am talking about you reading this now! For there is something you have that none else was given as a gift, use it  wink
Re: Church Gate Fee: Pastors Condemn Oyakhilome by sundaysule: 6:15am On Jan 11, 2011
It's one thing to have a "faith", it's another thing to be foolish.  If these people honestly believe that they need to be in the premises of a church at the stroke of 12 midnight on new-year's eves, then they deserved to be charged for it . . . ignorance costs!  Pastor Chris is one of many astute business men who masquerades as "Men Of God".  I just hope there are still many of this gullible fools around when I start my own church.  I'm coming with hard sales method and technology like never seen before.  Forget about Healing School, I'm having speaking-in-tongue school, fast miracle school, quick prosperity school and what I hope to be a best seller will be my anointed products shop.  I think 10% tight is now old school, tight in my church will be set at variable rate, depending on your income.

I believe in God, I believe Jesus is His son, I don't however believe church is necessary.  At best, the church is a good social forum, at worst (which is often the case) it is suppressive, repressive, divisive and fear mongering.  Church is there to make you feel bad about your short-falls, to squeeze out all minute self-confidence you may have, to make you believe that all bad things that happens to you are as a result of "the enemy", "Satan" and not to forget the favourites - "house-hold wickedness and generational courses". It is not a sin not to be a member of a church.  If you are christian, build on your relationship with God first, really study the bible and don't let people peddle lies and falsehood to you.  No single human being is better or closer to God than you.  we are all anointed of God as Jesus died for all our sins on the cross, we are all men and women of God.  You can pray all you want, give people like pastor Chris all your hard earned money, if you don't work hard or use your God-given brain to develop ideas that will make you rich, you are most likely will die a poor or at best an average person.
Re: Church Gate Fee: Pastors Condemn Oyakhilome by CGKing(m): 7:31am On Jan 11, 2011
This is just the thing with Nigeria. Its too clear the intentions of the critics - to damage the reputation of another. I cant believe another pastor would suggest that Pastor Chris be crucified. Anyway no matter how many criticise the church, i still agree that it was not a fund raising strategy, it was a crowd control measure. N1,000 is way too much for any church to put as ticket charge so it should inspire some wonder. I still see it as a move to control the crowd at the epicenter; because there were several other centres provided for ppl to participate without tickets. over 20 infact.

Another thing is, the ticket thing was anounced weeks before the event. I got wind of it then too and apparently, most of the prominent who r criticizing here did. So how come they did not kick against it them? They simple allowed it to happen and swung in with it as a weapon. Abeg make we hear word. The ppl who paid the fees did not complain to u ppl. I attended the event at the epicenter and didnt use any ticket. Pls cut him some slack.
