Nigeria has been under an illusion of prosperity because of oil. Otherwise, how can citizens who don't pay taxes be expecting stimulus packages? How can a state that generates nothing be waiting for federal Govt relief? How can a governor who generates nothing earn more than the governor of California?

All these government spendings have been largely supported by loans and crude oil largesse, and these two have proven to be unsustainable.

Nigeria is a spending nation, we hardly have balance of payment. That spending habit cuts through individuals to Government. We have been living under the illusion that all is well, but that's not so.

Citizens who bribe tax collectors to evade taxes; citizens who avoid paying taxes, bills and levies; government officials who spend money as if it's mere paper.

How can you even explain the idea behind the Nigerian pilgrims Board? Using borrowed dollars to sponsor religious tourism. How can you explain the idea behind the number of political aides attached to elected government officials?

Let's smell the coffee, Nigeria is a poor country. The cake in Abuja was bought on credit. The little dollars we made from oil has been wasted or stolen.

Our hope lies in citizens who will realise how bad things are, and be willing to be responsible enough to pay taxes, refuse electoral inducement, and vote correctly.

Our hope lies in restructuring or devolution of the Nigerian mass. Maybe agriculture will help. Maybe we can look less on the national cake. Maybe we will learn that we are poor. Just three more months of COVID-19 will show how bad things are.

Like the bride who encouraged the groom to borrow for the wedding, welcome home darlings!

Will those in Government listen? Will they re-adjust to the mistakes? Will they contrive new measures of diversifying the economy?. I dont think so. Not until we totally run out of oil or same becomes useless. Oil is the glue holding Nigeria together and its future is very unpredictable at the very moment.
