INABILITY OF OUR LEADERS IN EZEAGU LGA OF ENUGU STATE TO PROVIDE A GOOD ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT.

By Nwankwo Paschal

Facilities in various schools across Enugu State are in deplorable state despite government interventions in basic education. This is peculiar to Community Secondary Ahwa-Ndiagu which is the only public secondary in Ahwa-Ndiagu, located in Ezeagu Local Government area of Enugu state.

In Ahwa-Ndiagu community, they have only one secondary school with only JSS1 making use of a classroom, while the other classroom blacks have been dilapidated. It is so disheartening that some students who are meant to be learning in the other classes now have the option of learning under mango trees.

Whenever rain falls at the school, learning is being halted. Students are led into the few available classrooms in better shape within the school for shelter. Now there is issues of Covid-19, how can This students maintain social distancing. The local government chairman and their legislatures should put this into consideration.

Documents from the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB) show that N3.17 million was allocated to the renovation of the school building under the 2014 UBE intervention projects. This was never implemented.

The eye witness observed that two to three classes share a classroom because the roofs of other available rooms had caved in, While there laboratory is looking like a waste bin dump site.

Let me inform you the chairman, state House of Assembly member, house of Representative member, senator, ENSUBEB, PPSMB, governor and other major stakeholders in Ezeagu LG, to know more about what a good classroom should be.

The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) identified poor schooling conditions as an impediment to accessing a quality education.

Globally, the UNESCO Institute of Statistics described the disparities in the availability of facilities at the basic education level as a global learning crisis affecting over 617 million adolescents and adults.

Among parameters it used in establishing these are the availability of electricity, internet, computers, adapted infrastructure and materials for students, especially those with disabilities, clean drinking water, single-sex toilets, and basic hand washing facilities.

But the situation at the Ahwa-Ndiagu school in Ezeagu LGA appears much deplorable in these regards.

The Compulsory, Free Universal Basic Education Act of 2004 mandates government to provide enabling conditions for accessible learning for all. But the leaders in Ezeagu Local government have failed to meet up with this standards by providing quality education for its people.

In a publication made by Emmanuel uzodinma of daily Post on March 4th, 2020, stated that the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uche Eze, made a disclosure, saying that the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, through the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), has constructed and renovated close to 900 classroom blocks, including toilets and provided modern lockers and chairs for primary school children; tables, arm chairs and armless chairs for the teachers, as well as ceiling fans and marker boards for teaching, in the 17 local government areas. Does it mean that Ahwa-Ndiagu was not included in all this projects.

Please let me ask this leaders in Ezeagu Local government area. Have you ever visited community secondary School Ahwa-Ndiagu? Why did you allow students to suffer by learning under such condition? What happened to the Education trust fund (ETF)? What about the implemented 2014/2015 UBE intervention projects? What have you done to see the facilitation of student management through PPSMB?

Bellow are pictures and Short video of the abandoned building of Community Secondary school Ahwa-Ndiagu in Ezeagu LGA.This school has produced high class people in the society today, but due to absence of government representation from the community, it continues to die its untold death without hope of who to bury it or rescue it.

The community have been supportive to the governments from LG to Federal by giving there mandate to there leaders, but they have all failed in giving them the basic thing that we need in life. Do you know that the students have been crying foul for its rescue before we enter into rainy season. But it seems that the leaders have shown no concerns because non of them have there own children in that school. The students, management and community are hoping that PPSMB and other government agencies in the State will come to their aid. This is a call to action, and I challenge all the Leaders in Ezeagu to intervene or be in shame for failing the people of Ezeagu. Covid-19 break is an opportunity to fix it. If you think that you're worthy to lead Ezeagu in any government authority, then fix your LG and give them the best education.

Act now!!!
