quote author=janettee post=89148773]OP, I love your thread, kudos!.
I don't like when I read such threads like this and it's only filled with the positive sides of living in Germany, you already highlighted everything!!. Living in Germany is good, but there are many disadvantages that are rarely talked about especially being a foreign student.
Anyway, I was in Berlin last just for a day, I didn't have time to explore the city. The only thing I liked was the diversity, it was similar to being in Frankfurt cause I've lived there, hopefully I will get to explore Berlin one day .
Owerri guys kwenu!!!!
Sure they dont fall hands in anything!!!
quote author=Danielhouston post=89155315]
I’ve never been to Bochum. Dortmund is where you find all the Owerri boys. It’s like Imo state people had meeting and decided to send their brothers to Dortmund. It’s a really beautiful city and I love it. Calm, they love football, lots of Turks there as well. The black people there are business oriented, they have businesses back home in Nigeria where they send things to.
I wouldn’t say there’s a “best” city to live in West Germany. The west is a great place to live in and most of the cities have similarities in behavior. I’d definitely recommend Cologne, Dortmund, Bonn and if you want to see posh Germans that are clean, good looking, nice, rich and happy, go to Dusseldorf. Dusseldorf is also where you can apply for Canadian and UK visa. Duisburg is okay but it can be boring.
Re: Being Black In Berlin/germany by Rawhumper(m): 10:24am On Aug 02
Of all countries UK?
That stingy country, how come all those living in UK find it difficult to part with money unlike their counterparts in other countries?
Am surprised i was even saying that i never set foot there even with free visa
quote author=Tobexin post=89157192]I won’t advise any black person to move to Germany if he want to be successful in life you can be comfortable I am not doubting the fact! I could remember last year when my sisters husband was arrested in the airport for owing €600 or there about for violating traffic rules ,they did not allow him to go Nigeria till he paid the money there.
He said he didnt know about the violation,Op u saying truth the Cctv in Germany i say its the best,i heard even speed limit can be calculated without Police presence.
As for Germany has been the most thorough Country in the world especially during the 2nd World War.

It depends on ones IQ level,it took my sister a month to be fluent with German.
Everything its about ones ability to grasp and assimiliate easily.
Germany is a nice country and Angela Merkel is a mother as well as a wonderful leader.
God bless her so much for all she has been doing for immigrants and building a powerful economy in Europe unlike our yeye leaders, shameless goats that only know to loot money

Continue with your lie @bolded.
Even if you have two of Einstein's brain, you can never be fluent in German in just one month. So it is either you are lying or your sister lied to you.

Lol i cant stop laughing i think its 3months,confirmed but i can understand and speak not fluently in less than 2months.
German language has similiarities with English language examples Fuer german in English Fire.
Hande-Hand in English, nein-No in English,Ish-Is in English etc.

It was really insightful and kind of brutally nice , your own contribution really kinda made me to know how it is even as a citizen in there.
I wonder the life my little nieces who are born there will get.
I heard once an individual gets German passport,he automically is European citizen.
Also i heard Russian and Polish winters are more severe than Germany's.
I did like you to teach more of German,if thats ok by you.
How is the weather over there now?
quote author=fieryy post=89187293]
To be honest, I was kind of sceptic about this thread because I get irritated by threads that are not entirely honest about life as a black person in Germany. But honestly, this thread is amazing and in my opinion the most realistic one I've stumbled upon, so thanks janettee.
You can either choose to live in your bubble world and ignore the things said so far or be very realistic. I grew up in Germany and speak the language fluently, better than English and far better than Yoruba. There's nothing about the German culture that I do not understand or is entirely foreign to me, yet I still do experience racism. My youngest brother knows nothing other than Germany and still does experience racism. Black people born here do experience racism. 'Turkish people' who have been here for generations still experience racism.
It's not just integration, in fact assimilate and you will experience racism. You can try to ignore the minor ones, the micro aggressions etc, but what a lot of us experience is structural racism as well, racism in schools, universities, work places, when trying to get an apartment etc.
Therefore you can be that super nice black dude that is so much more different than other blacks, so responsible, never aggressive, doesn't think racism exist, and like Germans will say: 'He's so well integrated, these are the kind of foreigners we want! '. You can be that kind of foreigner, but duuuude, be rest assured you're not wanted here and let the Bundestagswahlen speak for itself, not that one white German, who's assuring you you're 'good enough '
Sorry about you been in hospital,u never be there again.Amen!
Just stay strong buddy.
Re: Being Black In Berlin/germany by Rawhumper(m): 4:48pm On Aug 02
Lwkmd that is why buddy we are on a move to change that,it may not show the effects now but i know it will someday.
That is what our politicians, hate, tribalism and WE are going to sanitize Nigetians to know that a change is coming and that change starts with you, lets put aside our anger, tribalism, religion etc.
It has not helped anyone,we are dying, chaos here and there.
Abject poverty in the country, please lets open our eyes and let the right persons work irrespective of their tribe.
This is a wake up call to those in diaspora, those within to really know no matter how far you run,you must come back home.
Lets stop the hate dpeech,i will take it upon myself no matter how long it takes to put an end to hate speech in Nairaland, then we can move to the society at large.
I LOVE THE YORUBAS,i LOVE THE ND,I LOVE the IBOS,I LOVE HAUSA/FULANIS that have the interest of the country at heart.
Happy sunday everyone!
quote author=Kenn55 post=89192900]
Daniel, you are doing a good job. I agree with everything you said except where you say racism is worse than tribalism.
In tribalism, people of the same color, same country even similar cultures hate and discriminate against each other based on the fact they speak different language only.
In racism, people of different color, different country, different language and different cultures discriminate against others. Now look at the gap here. Everything is different, now compare it with tribalism where everything is the same except language.
If people in the same country can hate each other so much, what is the big deal in racism? Having experienced conc tribalism in Nigeria,As someone living abroad, i don't expect love from whites by default. If you are nice, good and fine. Ironically, i have not experienced racism yet
One thing i have noticed about racism abroad is that the chances of racists temporarily shunning racism to embrace the one the hate when you show you have something to offer is high. In tribalism, even if you like be the only solution to the problem, as long as your name is okoro or Ayodele etc, you can never get the chance to offer your solution, they would rather die.
Look at Obama for instance. He is black, his name is not Jones, Smith etc but a Kenyan native name. However, when the chips are down, in a country of paltry 12% black, he won an election beating his white challenger because he is the better candidate. Obama will never win an election in Osun state for instance as an igbo man or win an election in Abia state as a yoruba man. It does not matter if he was born and bread in Osun or Abia, speaks the language fluently or the most qualified to rescue the state, he will not get support.
There are lots of Nigerians abroad that have broken the barrier of racism by merit because they offer value more than their white host. They whites had no choice than to swallow their racism. They won elections even when they are minority, they head top organisations bossing the whites even with their tribal names etc
See, even you who have faced racism in Germany stand a better chance of leading a top organisation in Germany or winning an election in Germany when the chips are down more than you winning an election outside your tribe in Nigeria no matter how qualified and capable you are.
Bros, if you want to see how rugged tribalism is, just peep into nairaland politics section. I no say make you stay there for long ooo otherwise you won't know when you will join them and become one tribalists, Lol. The hate oozing out from our fellow country men fit boil beans. Racism dey learn work.
Rawhumper:Ogbeni, you are still lying, if you don't know what to say, just ignore my mention. Imagine saying English and German have similarities, Do you even know any German Grammatik? Or you think the little words Dualingo throws at you is all there is to the German Language.
Re: Being Black In Berlin/germany by Rawhumper(m): 5:44pm On Aug 02
But i showed you examples na hande is German word for hand,i dont need to argue that while feur thoigh the e is not english is same as fire in English.
Nein is German for no,i dont say i speak German just to let you know that English language originated from Anglo Saxon.
You can take it or leave bro,am not lying.

It is totally impossible.

English and German are both parts of the branch of Indo-European languages known as the West Germanic languages. A simple google search would have helped you here, read this link and educate your self. https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-relation-between-English-and-the-Indo-European-language-family/answer/Kelechi-Wachuku?share=1a9f1d23&srid=G1uB
Like I said before, even if you have two of Einstein's brain. You can't speak German fluently as you previously claimed. Stop spreading false information.
NB: Stop using unnecessary space in your post. My reply to you ends here.
