The Federal Government, in partnership with states, is set to start feeding schoolchildren in their home, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, announced on Wednesday.

On April 8, The PUNCH reported that the Federal Government had finalised plans with state governments to start feeding schoolchildren in their respective homes.

Speaking on Wednesday at the Presidential Task Force briefing on COVID-19 in Abuja, Umar-Farouq said the government had overhauled the school feeding programme in a way to ensure that schoolchildren were fed at home despite the lockdown.

She said, “We have made progress in the overhauling of the homegrown school feeding programme and sensitisation has already begun in the three frontline states of Ogun, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory for implementation.

“The overhauling was sequel to a March 29, 2020 directive by Mr President to identify modalities and continuation of the school feeding programme during the COVID-19 pandemic in the lockdown states as of then.”

She noted that following the directives, her ministry in the collaboration with state governors worked out modalities for the implementation home feeding programme, adding that the initiative was set to commence.

“The plan has been adopted, with implementation now set to begin. The programme will therefore be carried out based on data provided and structures put in place by participating states with support from partners that include the World Food Programme.”

The minister had explained that the food would be distributed door-to-door, as vouchers would be allocated at specific collection times to avoid overcrowding.

She explained that the vouchers would be redeemed at designated distribution sites.

This came as the Federal Government on Wednesday handed food items to the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for vulnerable women across the country.

Umar-Farouq presented over the items to the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Pauline Tallen, in Abuja.

Who brought this to our country?
How did we get to this situation in our country?
How can we challenge the irresponsibility of our leaders?
Who will rescue this country from these people?
The government which failed to implement the feeding programme while the schools were in session , promised to continue to feed children in their parents' house.
We have entered one-chanced bus in this country

You couldn't feed them when school was opened. You couldn't feed them when earth was still earth.

Now that Ogbeni Minister is hiding behind facemask, he wants to feed school children. Our amiable minister, how do you plan to get this done and we hope you ain't gonna feed them with the recent Abacha loot?

The last time I check, Nigeria does not have adequate data of her citizens not to talk of school children

There is no country in the whole world, that is as empty, evil and so useless as Nigeria.
The same school children you could not feed while they were in schools, you now wish to feed them in their various homes across Nigeria, is there any other definition of crass ineptitude apart from this. By the way, how many households have you people given palliatives to since this pandemic and the eventual lockdown, because I have gotten nothing and I'm yet to see anyone who has.

A govt that's not ashamed to share and share. Is sharing what we need in Nigeria? Govt around the world are focused on social amenities and institutions that's common to all citizens irrespective of beliefs but ours is focused on sharing.

This is the most clueless set of people I’ve ever seen in my life. Health sector keep telling us that the reagents and testing kits is not enough, there are no test centers, hospitals are rejecting people, instead of these greedy people spend the billions on putting test centers across local governments, having isolation Centers spread across local governments and let people go about their activities, whoever feels sick will have a place to go, rather they are busy looting in the name of palliative and school feeding which left them with no choice than to lockdown. If only one could fast forward time to bring 2023 nearer so they can all leave the helms of affairs. Corona is even mild as a virus when compared to these people.
