Why the STRESS over an already diSTRESSed building? Due diligence should be employed. Safe evacuation of occupants, alternate abode should be granted them, discuss with the owner and help him cushion the effect of his loss. Then pull it down.

I’m Curious and just here for the exchange of ideas:

1. Alternate abode should be provided at who’s cost? That is under what category will this be logged under in the expenditure sheet? Charity?
2. Help landlord cushion effect- how and why?

Bear the following in mind a building will typically become distressed due to old age - over a 100 years for eg, poor structural design and construction with substandard materials so Wetin concern government with offering palliatives for something which is fully in the house owner’s purview?

Imagine some of the tenants in this building just paid rent for some years and haven't used up 5 percent of the allocated time of the rent. l wonder what will be going on in their minds when they come across this news.

Nothing stops the agency from doing the proper thing by demolishing the unsafe building, but alternative/compensations must be provided for the landlord and affected tenants.

I dont think landlord of any dilapidated building marked for demolition rightfully deserves compensations. Not that the govt is taking away his land but only bringing down the building to prevent any future havoc such building can cause. The landlord can still erect a better structure on that land again.
