UPDATE ON BANANA ISLAND BUILDING COLLAPSE

One body has been recovered from the rubble of the collapsed building at 1st Avenue, Banana Island, Ikoyi.

Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) workers’ search and recovery efforts unearthed the remains of the adult male hitherto unaccounted for by site supervisors.

The excavation of the site, using the architectural designs, continues. The site has been divided into quadrants for a painstaking search and rescue operation. Quadrants 2 and 3 have been levelled to ground zero, with the search operation completed. Quadrant 4 is ongoing.

Twenty-five people were rescued from the site when the building went down on Wednesday. They are all doing fine.

When a roll call was conducted by the site supervisors, everyone was accounted for. Nobody could ascertain whether the victim, whose body was found this morning, was on the site – as of the time the roll call was taken.

You didn’t allow journalists go inside the estate (u can block them from getting close to the site but not keep them outside the estate since Wednesday, you blocked every source of information and now telling us you are not sure if the dead body that was found was working on the site or passer-by.

A whole banana island, while buildings in ikorodu are doing just fine, with the money, something is not right about this.

Reducing materials just to save money, engineers won't make heaven I swear.

I thought it was reported there were no casualties....this is sad...unfortunately the culprits are hardly the victims...RIP to the dead and quick recovery to the victims.

For the fact that journalist were prevented from the site of the collapsed building will make people like myself to doubt whatever information the authorities will release as regards the collapsed building.
I still maintain that it will take the grace of God for people to survive from that incident.

Such an avoidable tragedy.
Approval was was not given for the building & yet the project continued up till the 7th floor.

We need to start sacking & jailing people for negligence of duty in this country.

the developer who erected a building without planning permission must be charged with manslaughter to send a message to unscrupulous cowboys. Everybody is a developer these days, most of them are unqualified.

They keep using Chinese style of building and concept of lean Budget. They don't know Chinese construction is known as tofu buildings. Even Chinese themselves don't believe in their own construction projects, but Africans will continue to be gullible. Look at other foreign companies, they have quality and rigid due process. Never seen berger, Arab contractor and couple of well known construction companies incur such disaster.
