Nah... lives are at stake. We gotta be objective here.

He messed up and was unfortunate to be captured on video embarrassing the Government....

Someone has to be the sacrificial lamb / scapegoat.

PS - the sad part of the story is that he or a friend of his probably took the video to show off.

This should be a lesson to people who quickly take to social media. It is often evidence to nail yourself. Happened to the security guy in Ekiti who took that video of a man who ejected his son in mockery.
you all seems not to understand. Its not the driver's work.... Where the Bleep are the paramedics. The drivers work is only to drive

Kdon2:
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Wednesday directed the sack of a government driver that unilaterally attended to an unkempt person who was evacuated with a COVID-19 ambulance in Ilorin.

He also directed the issuance of queries to top officials of the state ministry of health for failing to act with necessary caution and expertise in the handling of the incident that was recorded in a video footage that has since gone viral.

“The Governor totally condemns the shoddy handling of the gentleman who was clearly going through a hard time," Rafiu Ajakaye, chief press secretary to the Governor, said in a statement on Wednesday.

“He has directed that the driver be fired immediately. As the investigation revealed, the driver failed to heed clear directive not to take any action until the Rapid Response Team (RRT) arrives the scene. He evacuated the gentleman with the help of members of the public without waiting for the arrival of the RRT."

The Governor further directed that members of the RRT be queried, while other steps are being taken to ensure this incident does not repeat itself. Involving just anybody in the evacuation of a suspected case, as was seen in the footage, was a clear and dangerous violation of COVID-19 safety protocols. The government equally finds it quite distasteful and unacceptable that the driver, who had long been involved in such operations, made unethical comments to somebody in distress.

"That incident was avoidable, and we sincerely apologise to the gentleman and to the people of Kwara State for the embarrassing development. We assure them this will not happen again."

Why should the driver be sacked?! Who instructed him to go pick the patient? Why no qualified medical personnel with him after bn instructed to go on "official " duty? Where were the medical people that he was asked to just go and "park" ambulance at a supposed patients place and wait there?! Even as a "common" driver like we choose to call them here, is he not supposed to be provided a modern full kit PPE cos of the nature of his job?! MR GOVERNOR, AFTER SACKING THE COMMISSIONER OF HEALTH AND THE PERSON WHO INSTRUCTED THE DRIVER, SACK YOUR OWN SELF!

I think it's the derogatory statement the driver made to the sick man that is the main cause of the sack and also see how the stretcher was roughly handled making the the sick man fall heavily with the stretcher in a way he would have felt pain.

Heads must roll...he's the sacrificial lamp. All his ogas should have been sacked, not him because they apparently didn't train him well nor create a safe condition for him. They embarrassed the state in the face of the world and put several people at risk. Whew!

The Governor should be ashamed he is using this scrap as ambulance. See the window open, meaning no A/C. Do u know how many that will get infected through that open window? The driver is obviously not doing this for the first time. Shows how careless the state treats the Covid 19 pandemic.

That driver is surely infected.

A very funny and sad situation at the same time.

Did you hear one of the "helpers" say the patient will put his head down when his neck starts paining him after being told to lie down.

"Ti orun ba n ro, yoo gbo'ri sile".

Just so sad.
Naija I hail thee.
Where were the professionals whose jobs were to evacuate the patient?

Driver that knows that corona virus in Nigeria is not that serious, I always see NCDC officials in their hilux van is Secretariat Oyo state without nose masks. I don't blame people that believe these people though, they've been locked up for long.

Mind you, the numbers of confirmed cases started dropping just because other countries have started opening up their economy not because the virus is declining.

The people that want another total lockdown in Nigeria will be disappointed because nothing of that nature is forthcoming....

So the governor took the drastic action to deal with the drastic situation.

Wike destroyed the hotels because the owners flouted the executive orders.

Immigration sacked the ladies because of their appearances in the video.

In the end workers either lost their means of livelihood or got transferred to remote areas. People chose to crucify Wike.

Are they not all similar?

It was very wrong for the governor to sack the driver.

The governor is supposed to launch an investigation on how a driver who is not trained to handle such emergency ends up arriving for an emergency alone without a paramedic or trained specialist.

It is the system not the driver who failed. If the driver is a trained paramedic and the was issued appropriate kit, he needs to be sack thereafter but not now.

The whole scene was an embarrassment to the state government which should own up not transfer blame.

This is Nigeria, where one thinks he is helping but ends up ridicled.

Hmmmm. My thought as well. There was someone of high authority witg the driver that was giving directive that was not talked about in the press statement. The man didnt join the driver in the veichle he said he ll join him at the hospital. Yet only the driver was singled out for punishment. Injutice in nigeria is to high heavens.

The only reason why the driver was sacked is because he didn't obey instructions. In life you rise or fall by what you do with jnstructions.

I also think that the governor did not act in good faith. He could have ordered the immediate quarantining of the man and if after that he shows to be negative to the COVID-19 virus, he can now issue a less severe punishment. Unless he has been looking for a way to sack him, what he did doesn't demand the treatment he got.

moral of the story: Heed instructions and live.
