There is an unwritten rule in Nigerian politics that power should rotate between the North and South every 8 years, for the sake of equity and fairness. No sooner had Buhari won his second term than the political calculations of 2023 started.

While most people in Southern Nigeria believe that power should move to the South after Buhari would have concluded his 8 years in 2023, the question is which of three zones in the South, SW/SE/SS, should it go to?

If equity and fairness is why the Presidency should come down to the South in 2023 then the SW has no business producing the President that year!

The South West have had their 8 years with Obasanjo, the SS have had 4 years with Jonathan while the SE has not had a shot at it yet. Since the SW have had their 8 years in this democratic dispensation, it is only fair that when the Presidency rotates to the South in 2023, it should either go the SS, to enable them complete their 8 years, or go to the SE who have not had it at all

If the SW insist on taking a shot at the Presidency in 2023, then it means that fairness and equity does not mean anything to them. Therefore, the SE/SS should work against the SW producing the President, even if it means power staying in the North.

To support SW Presidency in 2023 will amount to giving the the SW a 'third term' when the other two zones in the South are yet to equal the two terms the SW have already had.

The SE/SS should say NO to a 2023 SW Presidency! If the SW insists on cheating the rest of the South in 2023, then let the whole South be cheated!

Why dont the SE compete fairly for the slot in the PDP and in APC

Just like Ekwueme competed with OBJ when the slot came to the south and was soundly beaten

The same SE that always want to compete for everything is now afraid to compete for this

Go and meet the PDP and tell them to give you the Presidency for supporting the party for the past 21yrs

Instead of going to do their homework to be able to get a shot at the presidency, they're waiting on others to give them the slot on a platter of gold. Who does that? APC and PDP is not giving it to the SE so you better start thinking of something else.

OP you're a typical example of why most Nigerians will never vote for an Igbo, today you're opening threads after threads about your quest for Biafra, tomorrow you're showing interest in the presidency, who would ever take such a person serious? How can Nigerians trust such a person.

SE should do what they deem right. They should all support the North in 2023 and let’s meet at the polls.

The difference between Yorubas and the Igbos is that the Yorubas will make sure to bargain with the North this time around and we will make sure that we don’t lose that alliance no matter what.

We will not follow the footsteps of the political miscalculation of the great Awolowo where Baba had to antagonize the North which made the Yorubas the region with the longest time in opposition politics in Nigeria history.

You Igbos should hear this, The time for political correctness is past and you should stop terming the Yorubas your fellow southerner. We are not brothers and will never be, because the past and recent events have clearly showed the Igbos are more enemy to the Yorubas than the Hausa North.

I prefer we ally with the North politically than allying with the Igbos. That is what exactly we will do in 2023, so you can all go to hell with your 5% votes.

As for the SS, they should do what is in their interest too and vote anyone where they think their right will be protected.

The problem with Igbos is, they don't accept blames even when they are wrong, South West voted massively for pdp(Jonathan) in 2011,instead of pdp/Igbo to solidify the unity that existed during that period, they turned yoruba to laughing-stock and u still expect them to repeat same mistake by voting for Jonathan again?
Below is d link on how it all started here on nairaland, u mocked them despite all their efforts.

And who cares if you support the SW or not?
You think what you can't achieve by fair play you can achieve by your usual emotional blackmail?
Give us Biafra....give us president....give us development...give us yen yen yen, all those lines are stale, you work for what you get and power has never been served on a platter, it maybe new to you guys cause you never had an empire or a centralized system of government, but your old dogs can still learn new tricks.

The last PDP chairmanship election that produced Uche Secondus has cemented the fact that there's nothing like micro zoning, Zoning is between the North and the South (as simple as ABC), Wike and the other PDP stalwarts stated it clearly to the chagrin of the SW and to the cheers of you children of hate who jubilate when policies favours you but try to emotionally blackmail others when it's against you.

It's no mistake that the two northern presidents (Yaradua and Buhari) in this new political dispensation are not only from the same NW region but from the same state Katsina with none of the other regions made up hundreds of tribes crying and wailing like our usual bush babies.

The Mumu Op will support Kanu today, call Nigeria Zoo/shithole and all derogatory name in the book, abuse Hausa-Fulani and Muslims but still want to become the president of the Zoo. We know all your Biafra charade is for political patronage.

The nerve of this OP. Look, Yorubas, the pragmatic ones anyway, do not expect Igbos to behave differently. You lot have always voted hatefully.

Igbos always vote clannishly in total disregard for the concept of seeking the best hands for the job.

The main issue everyone is missing, to include Igbos and Yorubas, is that it is impossible for an Igbo to get the Presidency ticket of either APC or PDP. Obi or any other Igbo choice will have to run on the platform of smaller Parties that stand no chance of winning as Moghalu did because the APC and PDP don't have the Igbos in their 2023 plans.

The ignorant OP and other Igbos making noise forget that APC and PDP Presidential candidate will emerge through the endorsement of Party delegates who will bargain, barter and Horsetrade. Igbos will never ever get majority vote support of the APC or PDP at Party Primaries stage which effectively kills any chance of Igbo Presidency before it even gets the chance to crawl.

The bitter, twisted and hateful OP continues to make it about "greedy" SW with realizing that not many delegates , not even SS Party delegates in APC and PDP, will trade their juicy vote for the worthlessness of supportion an Igbo candidate. Politicians are not that principled. Same lot sold their votes to Atiku to the extent the Saraki Igbos worshipped then was simply blown out of the waters at the PDP Primaries.

Party delegates will be 'herded' and directed by powerful stakeholders and interest groups within both Parties. I would therefore like to know the stakeholders and interest groups, influence blocs and lobbyists that will be pushing strongly for an emergence of an Igbo candidate in the APC or PDP for us to even be wasting our time talking about Igbo Presidency.

This is why Junaid Mohammed called them "blackmailers". It is the view most politicians hold of Igbos i.e shameless blackmailers who never build bridges and want to profit where they have not sown at the last minute. We all forget that Presidential candidates emerge first at Party primaries after delegates have voted. Politicians are not like ordinary Nigerians.

They always vote for what/who best serve their permanent interests. For many of them, by far, this is not an Igbo President. Mohammed best sums it up below by making it clear no one trust Igbos enough to gamble on them.

This is the challenge from everyone/everywhere the unfancied Igbos are facing yet they always want to pretend it is only "Greedy Yorubas" not stepping aside whereas the reality is that even if Yorubas abstained from the race others would still conspire to ensure an Igbo does not become President. This 'unelectability' is what Igbos should focus on and change not the retention of any malevolent obssesion with Yorubas for "standing in their way" when there was no way to begin with.

Junaid Mohammed says how he feels Igbos can produce the 2023 President. It is obvious he lists conditions Igbos cannot meet, in the eyes of others, most especially the North, for the next 40 years even. The idiocy of Igbos blaming Yorubas, like the OP does, is just redundant, self-delusional and dishonest.

How does all these play out in the politics of 2023? Could this be a ploy not to return power to the Southwest in line with the arrangement of the APC?

Where is the arrangement? Where did you see the arrangement? Does an arrangement exist? Can you show me any evidence of the arrangement you are talking about? The APC from its own formation has been quiet about the issue of zoning and rotation. PDP is the party that has zoning and rotation, not only enshrined in its constitution, but also the party that takes the principle of zoning and rotation over and above the Nigeria Constitution. If there is something amiss in the so-called arrangement, it is to PDP that you should focus your searchlight on. APC has never admitted and they have never claimed to be going on zoning. But some of them who are ambitious will like to use that, not for the interest of any part of the country, but to achieve their own personal ambition. That is their own look out and I knew that sooner than later this thing would backfire badly. It depends on how they handle it.

And those of you who imagined, like our brothers in the Southeast, that they can put a gun on us all and say give us the Presidency or else, they are wasting their time. It is not going to happen until they do the needful, which is sit down and do their homework. Go round and persuade the rest of Nigerians that the destiny of this country, the wealth of this country, the security of the country, if made available to them, is going to be in good hands. That they are going to be fair, they are going to be more responsible, and they are going to do what perhaps others have not done in the previous administrations. Until you do that, this is the only way you can get the Presidency.

But the Southwest is even more interested in the Presidency come 2023 than the Southeast?

But again, it shows you that the whole thing has nothing to do with performance or being fair….As far as I am concerned, if they, the Yoruba, believe that they have a divine right to have the Presidency in 2023, I think that they are being misguided. I also believe that it may not necessarily be a blessing. It would only, perhaps marginally add to the stability of the party, if they do it well. But part of the problem today as I see it is that they are trying to repeat what they did to the Igbo historically. They would say “well, we are together, we would do everything together”. But when the time comes, they (Yoruba) will simply take their own way and do things to their own advantage. That is their look out and the look out of the Igbo people because apparently the Igbo people do not want to learn from history and that is a tragedy.

What if a Northerner still comes back to take the Presidency in 2023. Would you see that is okay?

That is if the Northerners can get away with it because the hypocrisy and the conspiracy which brought out this zoning and rotation system was a product of Northerners and South Easterners primarily. Two people in particular, Alex Ekwueme and the late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua and none of them did it for the sake of the country. It was done for the sake of personal lust for power. And as God would have it, none of them is around today to enjoy the conspiracy. So, here we are. And Northerners and Easterners seem to be incapable of coming together for whatever reason.
