The Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers has expressed concern over the inauguration of the Joint Task Force set up by the Federal Government on the movement of food items, agricultural inputs and livestock.

It sees the committee’s operation as being in contrast to the effort of the Rivers state government to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Joseph Mukan had assured that the movement of those transporting foods items, including livestock to Rivers State will no longer be disrupted.

CP Mukan during the inauguration of the Joint Technical Taskforce Team said, “This is to say that during this period of COVID-19 there are a lot of inconveniences, most especially to the citizens on their basic necessities. So the government feels that they should be allowed to function.

“Food items we all know are basic necessities of life. So the government feels that during the Lockdown which is almost everywhere, there is a need for citizens to get what they can get on the table for their families. Most especially food items, it has been clear that it should be allowed to move wherever farmers want to take their farm products.”

Meanwhile, the Chairman Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Majesty King (Dr) Dandeson Douglas Jaja said the move was a threat to the lives of Rivers people and called on President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly intervene

Dandeson, who is also the Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt expressed concern.

“How would the Joint Taskforce would start operations with Rivers State without the Knowledge, collaboration and consultation of the River State Government,” he queried, adding “Rivers people are not the most malnourished in the entire country as to warrant such a hasty decision.”

King Jaja stated that, “Even if the intention was to ensure movement of food, livestock and agricultural equipment, the process could also encourage massive influx of possible bandits, terrorists and Covid-19 infected persons to endanger the lives of the people in Rivers State.”

So Wike has been made irrelevant so easily?

Let Wike focus on destroying the livelihood of Rivers indigenes, while the FG focus on the seamless movement of essential commodities into the state.

One tin that this lock down will trigger is an awakening.

Fg banned inter state travel the same fg wants to aid almajiri northerners down south to spread the virus.

So southerners should not travel but northerners can hide in food stuff and travel.

I don't like wike but if fg succeeds in dia evil agenda in rivers state it will be another southern state next. They feel pipu hate wike for what he did so they started from his state because they feel he won't have supporters

During Lockdown Governor Wike did not allow food items to enter the State. Not even from the neighboring states of Bayelsa, Abia and Imo... Other State Governor allow food to enter their states. This is not about Rivers state alone the FG gave a directive that food is part of Essential materials and Governor Wike choose to only become authority among the state Governors.

I'm a PDP fan, but I won't support Wike by forcing people home in the name of COVID 19 without adequate palliatives.

This is not about Rivers state or Wike... Food is on the essential list but why did Wike choose to deny food stuff into the state all in the name of Lockdown. Let us stop playing politics with everything.. As at today Wike is a governor of a state under the Federal republic of nigeria and i don't think He is supposed to be going against the FG directives all the time..... We all see how other states detain or return the Almajiris and give pass to the trailers conveying the foodstuffs but the case in Rivers State is the opposite. He seized the trailers with goods and even boasted that he will auction them.... Ships are on the high sea and can't berth at the ONNE port just because Wike arrested the port workers who reside inside PH and they're among the essential workers which the FG gave pass to.

My Brother this is not about politics!
Have u not been seeing the influx of Alamajiri from North to the South?

In Vehicles loaded with food, you see Alamajiris inside!

Don't you see that?

There is no Harm in bringing food items, but the State government has to supervise the vehicles coming into the state..

Let's not Deceive ourselves! The Federal cannot be trusted in anything Security!

That was their plan all along and we knew they want the case to increase so as to discredit the govt. We live in peace here and all of a sudden the FG has started creating unnecessary panic.

Their evil against the good people of Rivers State will be to their own detriment.

Buhari and his group of devil should leave Rivers State alone. Their was never a protest or complain from any quarters in Rivers State...we are in peace here.

Pls Buhari leave us alone...stop creating panic cos we know your govt tendencies and history with bloodshed. We don't want bloodshed and restlessness in Rivers State.

You have started Buhari. You made the Police commissioner to have control of Border in a state with chief security officer...what's your objective if not to create restlessness and bloodshed.
