Ramadan Day 1 I went to grocery store to get Some tomatoes and onions And seasonings for my rice and stew Empty! I met empty baskets of tomatoes And basket of onion loomed like flies What's stew without tomatoes Like rain touching not my house I know there's hunger in the land And lockdown increases it in folds Holy months shoot the need for food And there's no relieve yet in the land Farmers are scared of the virus war Marketers feared not touch hands and The little tomatoes in market is hoard By those with suits of cash Remember the virus spares no one And fasting is mandated not for Rich Leave for us the amount fifty naira can buy And remember Allah hates those who hoard |

Ramadan Day 2 Behind him whose sonorous voice Made many queue to pray, Imam Recited a verse of the Qur'an and my Heart trembled like a faulty door He recited "if Allah touches you with Affliction, none can come to your aid but He And if you see good, he's capable of all things Then he imam bowed to God, the lord of the world While my eyes streamed hot salty tears It stuck me like an arrow on my fourth run cage That in time of this pandemic, no one relieve fears But Him After the prayer, I raised my hands to the sky And seek his forgiveness from our errs Lest we could not bear an ounce of His woes Ramadan Day 2 Behind him whose sonorous voice Made many queue to pray, Imam Recited a verse of the Qur'an and my Heart trembled like a faulty door He recited "if Allah touches you with Affliction, none can come to your aid but He And if you see good, he's capable of all things Then he imam bowed to God, the lord of the world While my eyes streamed hot salty tears It stuck me like an arrow on my fourth run cage That in time of this pandemic, no one relieve fears But Him After the prayer, I raised my hands to the sky And seek his forgiveness from our errs Lest we could not bear an ounce of His woes Behind him whose sonorous voice Made many queue to pray, Imam Recited a verse of the Qur'an and my Heart trembled like a faulty door He recited "if Allah touches you with Affliction, none can come to your aid but He And if you see good, he's capable of all things Then he imam bowed to God, the lord of the world While my eyes streamed hot salty tears It stuck me like an arrow on my fourth run cage That in time of this pandemic, no one relieve fears But Him After the prayer, I raised my hands to the sky And seek his forgiveness from our errs Lest we could not bear an ounce of His woes 1 Like |

Ramadan Day 3 In quest for knowledge He will spread his shawl in sun at Teachers' gates and slept till they wake If asked why don't you Knock our gate and tap us to get the Knowledge you seek Or even send for us to your abode Abdullah bn Umar will snub it and say My father's position as a caliph Should not be a privilege and I would Not disturb you for my sake When the preacher finished sermon I bowed my head in shame And asked myself if I have been On the path of those Allah pleases with I prostrated and ask forgiveness From the most high to guide me To the ways of those he showed the Path and Not those his curse is upon |

Ramadan Day 4 I took a step beyond my gate But I ran back like a child Touching hot lantern I took a step away from scorching Sun, the hot raging inferno Under a mast tree, I stood still And spread my shrew to take a nap Like a snake crawling on a slippery wall It crept in my mind and blew it off I thought if this sun is hot enough To stop me from my ways If this sun is hot enough to make me Recount my steps How could I cope with hell fire Blazing more than inferno Then I spread my hands and prayed My Lord who says There is difference between Dwellers of hell and paradise and The latter are successful ones Oh God of Adam and Eve Count us among dwellers of Jannah |

Ramadan Day 5 Daily fasting Hours before dawn when Muslim faithfuls wake up Munching morsels of eba and okro I hear him roaming the street with his blue plate "Assalamualaikum waidi," his sings to the air echoing to homes He wants to fast and lock his mouth Till sky lock away sun from its shine He wants to spread his hands upward Staring at the sky while praying to the most high But he fast everyday even before Ramadan and Today is another day for his grumbling Worms roaring to his spleen In his tattered clothes, he's dear to God with his intentions 1 Like |
