What’s not to understand! What he presented were: on the one hand, what some may term a mishandling of the aftermath of the initial coup by Ironsi….as well as the murderous actions of a few young officers whose idealism wasn’t matched with a well thought out and pragmatic approach to achieving the uhuru they sort, and who lacked a proper understanding and appreciation of the delicate ethno-religious settings Nigeria was precariously perched on; and on the other hand, we have a ethnic-cleansing and pogrom on a scale globally not seen since the 2nd world war! I’m talking about the support amongst the generality of northerners for an orgy of violence and murder visited on an entire ethnicity…..soldiers, men, women and children were all targeted with no exceptions! Mention was also made in the Kissinger papers of the coalition, or alliance if you like, between the west (Yoruba) and north (Fulani/Hausa and some naive others) during this period tens of thousands of innocents civilians were being hacked down all over the north!

So you see, we have the actions and repercussions within and amongst soldiers which, though i condemn all murders, we can say was the military doing their thing; and on the other hand, we have tens of thousands of innocent men women and children being ‘justifiably’ murdered for the actions of a handful of officers! You see the stark difference!?

Till today, none of those who took part in these acts of depravity and mass murder have been tried and convicted….and i’m also including the war criminals of the uncivil war that followed! Instead, what we saw was some of them progressing to be heads-of-state and owners of oil blocks….with some even having their mugshots printed on the country’s naira notes! Of course none of you care for justice as those murdered were ‘3rd class Nigerians’ who had to pay for the sins of their kinsfolk involved in the first coup! Those supporting this line of argument yet still open their buccal cavity to declare ‘there are no Igbo outside your 5 landlocked states’ come across as being quite daft but the fact is lost on them so why bother pointing it out!?

In any case, all this is academic and a futile exercise in flogging a dead horse! Nothing will come of these type of discussions in the Nigeria of today, so the question now arises as to how those ethnicities concerned move forward as other ethnicities and countries who witnessed wars have moved forward! The hatred and disdain the Fulani and some Yoruba have for Ndigbo WILL NEVER END! I keep on warning everyone that we’re best off in different countries, and i particularly warn Ndigbo that if Nigeria somehow manages to falter and stumble on as a country, that those who see nothing wrong in the pogrom of ‘66 will continue to justify it even to your grand and great-grand children, and use said ‘Igbo coup’ as ‘justification’ for why they will continue to connive and plot to ensure no Igbo ever becomes president of Nigeria….even up to 150 years after independence!

Admittedly, there were signs that showed how some Yoruba elite viewed Ndigbo, but said signs were seen as nothing more than the rough-and-tumble of Nigerian ‘politics’! It was when Awo showed his hand with his actions and pronouncements before and during the uncivil war that it became apparent some within the Yoruba political elite actually despise Ndigbo!

The one of the Fulani was obvious from the get-go! I mean….if all the killings of Igbo in the north, pre-uncivil war, weren’t enough to warn Ndigbo that they’re hated by the Fulani and have no business sharing the same country with them, then the xenophobic stance of the Sadauna towards Ndigbo should have removed all doubt!

You see, you’re doing exactly what i said in my last post…you’re using the actions of no more than two or three Igbo soldiers from the then Eastern Region to ‘justify’ the mass slaughter of tens of thousands of innocents in the north! At no point did Ndigbo conduct a plebiscite and vote overwhelmingly for the Igbo soldiers from their region to carry out a coup, never mind actually murdering anyone! The blame for what happened lays squarely with those who carried out the action and not their entire kinsfolk who you’ve termed ‘guilty by tribal affiliation’!

This is a very lame and unintelligent attempt at changing the history of Nigeria.

The January 1966 coup was basically an ethnic cleansing by Igbos officers and you know it. It was supposed to pave way for domination of the Igbo tribe over the rest of Nigerians.

Cannibal Nnamdi Azikiwe and cannibal Ben Nwabueze were the ones who wrote the aspect of the constitution that prevented any region from breaking from Nigeria. Also, cannibal Aguyi-Ironsi was the one that promulgated decree 31 that destroyed regional government. All these were done by Igbos all in the hope that they will use those laws to dominate others.
