The Nigerian system is currently not functional because it is rife with abuse. The main problem of the Nigerian elections is the absence of a thorough national identification system. It’s not an accident Nigerian has no identification system - It’s a prerequisite for fraudulent elections.

As for unpredictability, Unpredictability in itself does not mean fairness in elections. In fact, it would shock you to know that there’s much more electoral fraud in the US than in Nigeria.
