The issue of rape is trending for the wrong reasons in Nigeria right now following the despicable happenings in the past week which has now lead to revelations after revelations of other cases across the country but I feel some of those revelations are too late. Most of these victims wouldn't even reveal them if not for the tragic cases that happened. A lot of victims constantly say they fear stigmatisation when they report rape but what they don't realise is when you keep quiet you allow the rapist to prey on another person. The more you keep silent the greater the danger the rapist poses to others. Remember the case of Dr. Larry Nassar assaulting lots of athletes at USAG and Michigan State Univ.? Chances are if his first victims had reported him he would have been behind bars before he could assault the others that followed. Fans of the Olympics will know multiple champ Simone Biles testified against Nassar as one of the victims, not thinking about being stigmatised. They knew they were doing the right thing
