Chinese president officially opened the 55km world's longest sea crossing bridge in 2018. The bridge took nine years to be completed.

The bridge connects Hong Kong to Macau and mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai. It cuts traveling time between Zhuhai and Hong Kong from about four hours to just 30 minutes.

Built at the cost of $20 billion, that is about N7.3 trillion, and designed to last 120 years. The mega structure is strong enough to withstand earthquakes and typhoons.

Part of the total crossing consists of a 30km bridge that crosses the sea. A 6.7km under water tunnel also runs between two artificial islands to allow large cargo ship containers to pass through.

To put the length of the bridge into perspective, the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, the second longest bridge in Africa has a total length of 11.8 km.

Only private transport that has special permits are allowed on the bridge. Hong Kong residents will also need special permits to access the toll playing bridge.

55km bridge cost N7.3trillion in China.

Second Niger bridge, 1.63km cost Nigerian government 336billion Naira.

Definitely 55km in Nigeria, using the cost of second Niger bridge as the yardstick, will cost Nigeria about 11.34trillion Naira.
Even at the cost, it won’t be structurally strong and lasting as the Chinese bridge.

Strong enough to withstand earthquakes and typhoons?

Well, I must commend the good job done. Beautiful construction to behold.

Wolgrace Construction Ltd would get there some day. See my signature for details.

The Chinese are really trying and innovative..
When will Nigeria ever be like this.
Our government did a railway for us and we're counting it as their biggest favour for us and they'll gladly mention it too, whereas those are meant to be primarily done already before now..
Until we've a good leader to rule us for once, he'll set a standard for the oncoming leaders to look up to, if a government provides 200 major innovations, the next leader would know that going 150 is a failure, but when a leader does just 2 or 3 , the next leader would see 5 innovations as a success .

Nigeria needs to divide.

Even Abuja is overrated. It's only better than Lagos because of low population density. It's unbefitting of a national capital.

55km bridge started and finished under nine (9) years!

New onitsha bridge is just 1.34km and has been under construction for almost 10 years now and has not even near completion and it has cost close to US$ 5 billion (Audio).

Nigerian politicians are EVIL!

I trust my 9ija we can't do that type of bridge that will last for 120years because most of us in Nigeria we believe rapture wil soon take place and we re in end time and is affecting us not to invest in future are we the only country that is reading Bible most, that is make us to believe strange thing that is happened is sign of end time. I think too much of believe is killing us in this Country. .

Chinks are just copy cats that rely on ant labor.

They suck really bad in almost everything they do.

They just steal western tech and fck it up for everyone. See: Wuhan BSL4 as refrence.

This is a picture of the celebrated 3 gorge dam that was commissioned in 2009. Less than 10 years, the dam is already having serious structural defects.

They don't call it MADE IN CHINA without a reason.

Most equipment and materials used in the construction will be imported while in China everything used was produced there.

the kick backs from the inflated contract actually made the cost high, not the transportation

I appreciate the technological advancement in China, but their racist tendencies and overzealous nature to develop more capacity has caused the world pain through Covid 19. As a result, there is nothing China does that appeals to me...they have caused humanity serious pain
