Nowadays the journey to becoming an author and publishing a book is a complex affair. Especially when trying to figure out the biggest names in the game and which publishing houses best align with your creative persona. Moreover, another challenge is drawing the line between trade publishing, educational publishing and editorials. Trade publishing entails publishing books for a general audience and with fiction novels, this type of publishing is always the way to go. To help you keep your eyes on the prize, here are the top 5 global publishers for fiction novels who are currently accepting submissions.

Penguin Random House
This is the biggest of the Big 5 and was formed in 2013 through the merger of Penguin Books and Random House. Having over 200 divisions and imprints, its most notable are Knopf Doubleday (formerly Alfred A. Knopf Inc), Crown Publishing and Viking Press. Furthermore, the company is known to publish 15,000 new titles from 250 imprints annually. Its best-selling fiction novels include Camino Winds by John Grisham, The Wedding Dress by Danielle Steel. The company’s imprints DAW and Seven Stories currently accept submissions.

Macmillan
This publishing house remains the more famous name among the Big 5, possibly because it was a part of most of our childhood. Importantly, it has an illustrious history dating back to 1843, publishing the original works of authors like Lewis Carroll, Rudyard Kipling, and W.B. Yeats. Its most notable contemporary works in fiction include The Long Call by Ann Cleeves, The Bitter Roots by C. J. Box. Fortunately, the company currently accepts submissions via its imprint: Page Street Publishing.

Academy Chicago Publishers
This is a trade book publisher founded in Chicago, Illinois in 1975 by Anita Miller and Jordan Miller. Then, it was purchased by Chicago Review Press in 2014. It is best known for publishing the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Fay Weldon.

Bellevue Literary Press
The company publishes literary fiction and narrative nonfiction geared toward a general readership. Some of its notable published works include The Flip by Paul Harding, a Pulitzer Prize for Fiction winner.

Creston Books
The publishing house has only been around since 2013, but they’ve rapidly established a prominent reputation. In just four years they’ve won over 20 awards. They are best known for publishing new authors and importantly, black authors with their Black voices matter initiative.
