On June 8 1998 Gen. Sani Abacha died in the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He was buried on the same day, according to Muslim tradition, without an autopsy. This fuelled speculation that he may have been assassinated.

The government identified the cause of death as a sudden heart attack. It is believed by foreign diplomats, including United States Intelligence analysts, that he may have been poisioned. His chief security officer, Hamza al-Mustapha, believed he was poisoned by Israeli operatives in the company of Yasser Arafat.

Other sources revealed he was poisoned with a spiked apple juice while he was in the company of two Indian prostitutes.

There were massive celebrations in Southern Nigeria when the news of his death filtered the air.

He ruled the country with an iron fist for 5 years.

Rumors have it that he took a printing machine to his house where he printed enough money that could feed his generation to the 10th of them. Till today, the government are yet to recover all the looted money he printed.

Nevertheless, history also have it that he played fundamental roles in African continent as a whole than many of his predecessor and successors despite the loot.

Abacha refused to handover the Bakassi Peninsula.
Abacha maintained the economy despite the international sanctions.
Abacha mentioned, if any act of terrorism that last more than 48 hours the govt has hand in it.
During Abacha there was no any religious clash of any sort.

Who told you Abacha refused to handover Bakassi, you need to get educated! The Bakassi case was taken to the international court of Justice by Nigeria in 1994, following skirmishes between Nigerian and cameroonian troops, Abacha in his usual gra gra manner had wanted to face the cameroonians in a war, when France hinted that it would defend cameron if attacked by the Nigerian army, mum was the word from britain and America, they didn't give Nigeria any assurance of comng to her aid in case of a war.

Fearing that the west could use the guise of keeping peace between Nigeria and Cameroon to remove him from office Abacha was advised to head to the international court of Justice, which he did.
The judgement came in 2006, 12 years later and it favoured Cameroon ( by then Abacha was long dead) Obasanjo reluctantly agreed to hand over Bakassi, but it was in fact Yar adua who did so 2 years later.
