What really matters when it comes to hiring a job candidate? Well, we are not going to talk about the boring stuff. We are, however, going to talk about how a lot of recruiters believe there is a perfect candidate out there. This is simply not true!

In our line of work, we come in contact with a lot of professionals – inclusive of recruiters and job seekers, both the ones just starting out and those who have been looking out for opportunities for a good number of years.

The general sentiment from job seekers, is that a lot of times, they go for interviews, and they end up receiving rejection emails, even when they thought they met at least ninety per cent of the requirements!

Now, we have had conversations with some recruiters, who have admitted that they usually search for that one candidate that is slightly better than the best one right in front of them. They have somehow convinced themselves that there is always someone better and they will often overlook the values a candidate brings to the vacant role.

One important lesson we have learned, especially in recent times, when more young people are beginning to take their personal development seriously, is that a lot of candidates are suited to the role they are applying for. Why then do some recruiters tend to overlook a candidate even when s/he meets the requirements?

We have found that aside from the fact that a lot of companies already have their candidates before they advertise open roles, some candidates are overlooked even when they meet the skills required. So, we want to make it known to recruiters, that there is nothing like a perfect job candidate.

For every role available, every candidate will bring what they have including skills, qualifications, behaviors, and values. As recruiter, you will have to make the decisions that will best serve your company/organization. If you reject every viable candidate, you will end up keeping the role(s) open for months on end, while there are countless reliable professionals who are a good fit for your company/organization.
