Fantastic! Fantastic!! Fantastic!!!

Govenor Dave Nweze Umahi is truly "Aku-bara-Oha 1"!!!

I cannot believe what I have just seen is actually in Ebonyi state! Chai, God bless that man o!

Many African countries and even some Eastern European countries don't even have an international airport terminal building that is this massive!

The effort now is to develop the tourism potential of Ebonyi state to attract many visitors and businesses to the state and keep this airport among the busiest in West Africa.

New and exciting gaming arcade at the Ebonyi mall.

One investment i’d love to make at the mall is to have a Marvel/DC Comics centre: the go to place for anything to do with superheroes! It’ll have giant lifelike statues of all your favourite Superheroes: Superman; Incredible Hulk; Spiderman; Batman (and i don’t mean Tinubu); Thor (the Nordic god of thunder); etc…as well as have statues of their nemesis’, just to balance things up between the forces of good and evil!

Though, the centre will mainly specialise in selling Marvel/DC comics and books as well as related merchandise and games/DVDs!

Next door to this will be a Disney centre: your go-to destination for all things Disney! The idea for this is still at its formative stage, but be rest assured it’ll be magical! wink

With May 29th being only about two months away,, this airport is under a high risk of becoming an abandoned project unless the runway is marked and made verifiably operational one month!

Umahi needs to concentrate all the effort in getting the runway ready for test flight now.

Airport terminals in London and globally are gradually improved endlessly as the airport operates on a completed runway. Therefore unless the runway is completed immediately and test flight conducted successfully on it to prove that the airport is operational, this airport will be a tragic abandoned project in the next regime after May 29th.

Yes, bro. It is very urgent to complete the runway now to get the airport operational for at least day flight operations. Just like the Ogun state Governor rightly concentrated on getting the runway of the Ogun Cargo airport completed and operational before bothering about the terminal building. Which can be completed even in 20 years as the airport continues to operate.

Without a functional runway, an airport is merely a nice mall building with ample parking space for cars.

Latest on ongoing construction of the new Ebonyi int'l airport.

It's all coming together nicely, even though i still feel the choice of decor is a bit too heavy as it darkens the terminal a bit and makes it look a bit too clustered. But what's been done still looks impressive nonetheless! Hope they get all the necessary technical aviation stuff in place and up to international standard like Obiano did with Anambra airport.

This airport will serve as a catalyst to accelerate the Ebonyi economy ten-fold. It may not operate at full capacity in the first year or so, but traffic should be expected to grow exponentially in just a few years given all the untapped opportunities the state has to offer in solid minerals, agriculture and eco-tourism.

Update on construction works at the new Ebonyi airport.

I have to admit, its not looking bad..even with the heavy colours which doesn't look as jarring as it did when work started. Though, i would still have preferred neutral colours with a splash of multi-colour here and there. The terminal and control tower will soon be finished, but it seems they didn't pay as much attention to the runway. Just hope it will get the necessary approvals for the airport to open on schedule. I remember with the construction of Anambra airport, more attention and expense were paid to the control tower and runway....bringing them up to international spec', and this is what gave the airport its high rating.

Hope they properly landscape the approaching road and in and around the airport premises. We tend not to care much about landscaping and greenery when delivering projects in the south-east....with the exception of when Julius Berger handles the job!

Also, i think the governor should construct a covering at the front of the terminal for cars arriving to drop off passengers, and also a covered walkway linking the carpark to the terminal building. This is so those leaving or arriving the airport don't get wet if it pouring down with rain outside.

First Flight Lands in Ebonyi International Airport on Thursday, April 27, 2023!!!

Wow!!! Big congratulations to Ebonyi State for this massive achievement! Thank you Governor Dave Umahi for your tenacity and great perseverance to see this project completed in record time!

Now the work of developing new tourist attractions such as Ndibe Beach, nice hotels, fantastic restaurants, and world-class clubs to drive the entertainment industry to boost tourism and the state's economy must be pursued vigorously. That is a way of making this airport one of the busiest in the country. Congratulations once more to Ebonyians on this achievement. Ebonyi to the world!

Njenje Media visits the new Ebonyi Int'l Airport.

There's still a few things they're working on here and there, but the job is pretty much complete.

Happy to see the runway turned out ok and is smooth as there was a report few weeks back by another vlogger saying it wasn't smooth enough. Also, all the technical runway stuff are being installed: the ILS has been installed and they're installing the runway lighting that would facilitate nightime flight operations. The runway is said to be the tickest in the country....is guaranteed for the next 50 years at least, and can take the heaviest aircraft.

The airport is said to have cost 36 billion naira....so far, and as far as i'm concerned that's good value for money!

As a complimentary project, i think there needs to be at least one 4-star hotel close to the airport for contingency and regular aviation lodging needs. Crew and other staff of international airlines may need to lodge overnight and shouldn't have to travel into the state capital for this. Also, if flights are cancelled at short notice, the hotel can be used to lodge passengers for the night or until their next flight is available.

Ebonyi has the highest poverty rate in southern Nigeria. Ebonyi has the highest illiteracy rate in southern Nigeria. What ebonyi needs is not airport or railway but human capital development and investment in education, so that ebonyi people will stop hawking pure water in Onitsha, PH and Lagos.

Governor Umahi lays the foundation stone for the proposed Ebonyi state Intra-state rail line. He says it would be done in conjunction with the federal gov't, and i guess he intends to use the right of way already set aside for the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri federal rail line which the Buhari gov't ended up not doing.

Umahi said the railway will have stops at the David university, Uburu....the Ebonyi int'l airport....and Afikpo! I'm guessing the station for the one in Abakaliki would be around the mall area. He said they will visit China for the final designs and costing, and the project cost will be reduced from what the federal gov't normally pays as the job will be done by direct labour (as we saw with the airport and other projects delivered in the state) and cost will be further reduced as the state will provide the chippings, the sand and the land.

The state gov't should try and source the steel for the tracks locally, as i don't really like the idea of China importing all the steel for the job from their country.

The new Ebonyi Governor seems to be a slacker!

Why is he not making plans to ensure the Abakaliki airport begins to function? Even if it's just a few flights in a week? States with even fewer populations and cities with fewer economic activities got their airports functioning by creating very good incentives for airlines to operate profitably from their airports. He should travel to Yenagoa and take some lessons from Bayelsa Governor on how he managed to keep the Yenagoa airport operational despite the odds.

Ebonyi state government should approach Green Africa Airways to serve Lagos - to- Abakaliki twice weekly.

I don't know why the Governor cannot subsidize flights to the airport as former governor Engr. Dave Umahi promised! How can a whole airport be allowed to waste just because the state government will not subsidize airfare even if its for 3 months?

The airport is not in anyway abandon, works are still ongoing on the control tower, the runway is about to be asphalted and signages inside the terminal are yet to be finished. Just that our politician are fond of Commissioning uncompleted project.
