maybe theres a particular codec it supports

have tried mkv formats, mp4 formats, AVI formats, 3gp, m4a, you name it. I just weak.

Its the video Codec that's the issue not the Format.
Most TV's cant play HEVC codec. If you download a movie with codec HEVC your TV properly wont be able to play it

HEVC gives good quality for a lesser size than the H264 with more size

So if you want to watch in your TV (not android TV) download a H264 codec but for smartphones you can download either but i prefer HEVC.
Xvid is cool too not xvideos ooo .

Don't download film from netnaija it doesn't play well on TV because of its h.265 format

Use VLC on pc to convert to a suitable codec for your TV. It's actually not worth the stress. . . The process takes forever, to complete just a 30mins Video might take 4hrs. Lots of videos on YTube on how to use VLC to convert codecs.
