CHAPTER SEVENTEEN


"hey babe, you are here" Daniel smiled at Bari as soon as he opened the door for her. "Come in, please" he added, opening the door wider for her.


"Thanks" she replied, stepping in fully.


"Welcome to my simple home" Daniel shrugged motioning her to sit down.


"Simple, but fine" she sat down and dropped her bag on the table. "You sure do love red, i can see that" she said looking at the red painted wall, red sofas and even red curtains.


"I love red, my blood is red" he chuckled.


"Are you a Manchester United fan?" she giggled.


"Yes babe, the winning team" he bragged.


"I knew it. By their slogan you shall know them. They always say "My blood is red" she rolled her eyes and a hiss came after.

"Well our blood is red, isn't it? that is by the way though, i hope you didn't find it hard locating this place?" he scratched his head.


"No, not at all, it was easy" she replied.


" Okay, What should i offer you?" he asked.


"Do you have food?, am hungry, i came to this place directly from the shop and i skipped lunch"


"Why would you be skipping meals? do you want to have ulcer?" he asked raising his brows at her.


"I wasn't hungry then" she shrugged.


"Am sorry, i didn't cook, infact i don't cook, but we can order for food" he looked away, shyly.


"What have you been eating before now?"


"I always eat out, or i will make noodles or pasta" he chuckled.


"Show me the way to the kitchen then, let's make pasta" she stood up smiling at him.


"This way, my lady" he bowed curtly before walking to the kitchen. Bari laughed briefly before following behind. They walked into the kitchen, she grabbed the apron and wore it, he brought the pasta out from the cabinet under the table top gas cooker.


"Your kitchen is beautiful, you like being simple because there is nothing much here" she asked pouring the groundnut oil into the pot.


"Simplicity is the best lifestyle. Let me break the pasta for you" he smiled.


"What would you think about me adding some flesh?" Bari asked, pouring the chopped onions in the fried oil.


"You are okay the way you are. I love skinny ladies, they don't grow old and even after child birth, their body goes back to it's normal shape" he replied.


"But having a sizeable ass and boobs wouldn't be that bad" she stirred before adding the tomatoes.


"You are beautiful this way, Bari. Don't ever feel that you are not good, okay?" he sighed.


"Okay ooo, it's just that no man has ever looked my way for the past 8 years since after Rowland. Even when i walked on the road with Chioma, she always got that attention and i always felt left out. I wouldn't mind doing something, maybe to add even if it is a little flesh in the right places so that you won't go" she opened the cabinet above the gas cooker bringing down the salt and Maggie container.


"Mi amor, listen to me, i love skinny ladies, I love you, that's all that matters. Those men that didn't look your way then didn't know what they wanted and am glad they didn't even notice you, because if they had, i wouldn't be with you, now. Don't stress yourself because you want to add up some flesh, i love your body, like this" he smiled warmly.


"What is Mi amor?" she asked, after covering the pot.


"It means "My Love" it is a Spanish language" he nodded.


"Okay" she shrugged.


"Who is Rowland?" Daniel asked abruptly.


"My ex, the father of my child" she opened the pot and then turned to Daniel "Pass me the Pasta, please" she added, pointing at the stainless container.


"What happened between you two? what caused the separation?" he asked, passing the Pasta to her.


"I got pregnant, he said i should take it out, i refused and that was the end of it" she poured the pasta and stirred before covering the pot.


"It's a good thing you didn't consider abortion. That man doesn't deserve you, which man abandons a lady whom he impregnates?" he sneered.


"Rowland does" Bari chuckled, walking to the cabinet where he was leaning on.


"Come here" he muttered softly, dragging her to himself. "I love you, i wouldn't mind singing it like a song to you.


"He called me a baggage, he said he was ashamed of walking on the road with me, because i would scratch any moment i come in contact with water or any disgusting thing. He said i was straight, he even called me a parallel line, all because i got pregnant and refused going for an abortion" she blinked back the tears threatening to fall.


"Shhhhhhh, it's okay, baby. Am here now and i will never take you for granted, he called you a baggage, no problem, i will claim the baggage he tossed into the trash can, and i will make him see how transformed the baggage has become. Bari, you deserve the best, not every lady out there can do what you did, bringing a baby to life outside wedlock, I want you to walk with your shoulders high, you are the real deal," he sighed, hugging her tight, as though he didn't want to let her go.


"Thank you, doctor. I have never felt happy for the past 8 years, but since i met you, i have known nothing but absolute happiness and if this is a dream, i wouldn't even want to wake up" she wrapped her hands around his back.


"I love you, baby girl, you are my heart beat" he disengaged from the hug, stared at her briefly and then claimed her lips in a kiss. She kissed him back with so much vigor wrapping her right hand round the back of his kneck. they stopped kissing for a minute and stared at each other. "Oh God, i love you so much" Daniel said claiming her lips in a kiss, again. They got into another round of kiss.



Bari tapped him gently, they stopped kissing and stared silently at each other again. "I need to go check the food unless you want us to eat a burnt offering" she chuckled, walking towards the food on fire. Daniel closed his and sighed "I won't let you go, never" he whispered to himself, making sure Bari didn't hear him.
