The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has emerged as the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the September gubernatorial election in Edo State, VOICEAIRMEDIA reports.

Obaseki, who was practically unopposed after all the three of his opponents stepped down for him.

He was declared winner after sweeping the votes cast by about 2,000 delegates at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in benin, followed by VOICEAIRMEDIA.

With this development, Mr Obaseki will face his main rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and 14 other political parties will contest the September 19 governorship election in Edo State.

Edo INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Johnson Alalibo Samikiem, disclosed on Thursday in Benin, the state capital.

Samikiem, who spoke at the main bowl of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium while monitoring the PDP’s governorship primary election, assured that the commission was prepared to conduct a free, fair and credible election in the state.

He said: “INEC is fully prepared to conduct a free and credible election in the state. To this regard, we have 15 political parties who have registered with us to participate in the forth-coming governorship election in the state.”

According to reports gathered, at least seven other parties have concluded their primaries and selected candidates for the governorship election, according to the electoral commission, INEC.

The PDP primary was supervised by the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and his Zamfara and Oyo counterparts, Bello Mattawalle and Seyi Makinde.
