Database, credible data ? It won't favour the fulanis. Abi you wan expose fulanis from Mali, Mauritiana, Gambia trooping into nigeria every day ? you want everybody to know that fulanis in nigeria are not more than 15 milion ?

Having a standard data base system will only expose many corrupt practices in this country.....

Take for instance, the IPPIS. Many agencies have refused to be part of the system to avoid a cut in pay. But the IPPIS is to allow the government to know how many civil servants that the FG is footing it's bills...

Also, take the National ID for instance, with a link to the BVN. This has really exposed corrupt politicians having multiple accounts with starched money.

But we need a standard data system. Either with a finger print for common criminal acts or to curtail corruption in this country.

Might not be possible, after all....

It has been observed that Nigeria is one of the most disorganized , lawless, and porous countries on earth, and most of it's data online are false. That's just too bad for a country of 200 million who claims to be giant of Africa , or even hopes to be on a path towards progress..
There are so many examples to prove Nigeria's disorganization and lawlessness, but lack of credible data is just one example. Another example is the fact that ethnic or state boundaries are not well defined and demarcated ,and that has continually given rise to barbaric and primitive events like communal clashes .

Examples that prove Nigeria lacks credible data : It says Onitsha has a population of 7 million, it says Calabar's landmass is 406 km2 with population of 371,000 ; some sources say Nigeria's population is 180 million ,others say 200 million. Now, Calabar's landmass can simply be verified with google satellite and it's not what official government report says it is . The list goes on and on.
One of the hindrances towards keeping track of Nigeria's data is due to nonexistence of ID database . It would be easier to keep track records if Nigeria has ID database. And not only that, Id should be made compulsory for all activities. For example ,all states should have ID database, you can not work ,school, receive health care or live in a state without Id or registration. Census would only be for formality . The government would readily have information about it's demographics and events. At this point, the Nigerian government has no idea how many of it's citizens are 20 years old or centenarians. Most official data about Nigeria are guess work .
If Nigeria hopes to be regarded among nations on path towards progress, the basic structures such like Id database, credible data , and border security for the nation and states ,are crucial.

Thank you.

The problem of the Third World is organisation. If the whole of your economy is organised, formalized and taxed, you will be developed.

How long has he been working on it? He's been there for 6 years . Without security and stable electricity , in this case security(compulsory Id,border demarcation and security, efficient law enforcement, etc. ) the engine hasn't started . Everything built is simply a waste and won;'t make Nigeria a developed country.

Instead of building the basics, The governors seem to be focusing on vanity structures which should be built by private individuals.
If there's stable electricity and security and everything is privatized , 20 and 40 story apartment buildings would spring up at Calabar within 3 years . Factories would spring up. Stadium, mall, and amusement parks are cake walk .I'm a civil engineer. Who wouldn't want to monopolize rail transportation in Cross river and elsewhere ? But as it stands now ,Nigeria is one of the most unsafest places on earth where you can get away with murder . Totally lawless and disorganized , no serious investor would ever build anything tangible there , and no Nigerians living in developed countries would ever consider relocating there permanently .
All the news you see online about American firm or German firm or Japanese to build this and that or do this and that are baseless and unfounded claims that will never materialize due to the facts above . Eve if it materializes, wont last due to lack of the basic development outlined earlier.
What's your cost estimate for a 20 story apartment building in Nigeria

If we could only impress this on the minds of every Nigerian and have this replace the simpler and cruder concept of tribe and ethnicity as the overriding question that holds back Nigeria, then Nigeria will become that great power of our dreams. I would go so far to posit that the wholesale adoption of this mindset would be our development enabling Revolution, sticks and stones not required.

Humans will always identify with their ethnicity . Irish is an ethnicity ,Yoruba is an ethnicity, Igbo is an Ethnicity , Japanese (Yamato) is an ethnicity. All Nigerian ethnicity should be states or Provinces and have autonomy and control of their resources(True federalism) ,and with that it doesn't matter if the entire west Africa is one country and won't matter where the presidents are from .
Until this reality of true independence is understood and implemented Nigeria will never progress. You can not forcefully merge Irish,Lithuanian,Polish and Ukrainian in one unitary country and then there's so much injustices, perhaps only Polish is always president and Irish who produces most of the resources is pushed to the back burner, yet you are asking them to forget about their ethnicity and embrace a fictitious colonial nationalism. Now that they all have their Independence they get along very well and even formed European union amicably.

It is simplistic and lacking in-depth understanding of humankind to conclude that human beings will always identify with ethnicity. Humans can identify with most things, given the impetus. But setting that many faceted concept aside, how many independent states would your argument create from Nigeria and the rest of Africa, in you estimation?
