The number of active voice subscribers increased by 10.12 million to 136.20 million in the first three months of 2020 from 126.08 million in Q4 2019.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) disclosed this in its latest telecommunications data report released on Monday.

According to the report, the telecoms data for Q1 2020 reflected that a total of 189,282,796 subscribers were active on voice as against 184,699,409 in Q4 2019 and 173,713,842 in Q1 2019. This represented a 2.48% increase in voice subscriptions Quarter on Quarter and 8.96% Year on Year.

The Bureau also stated that a total of 136,203,231 subscribers were active on the internet as against 126,078,999 in Q4 2019 and 116,310,154 in Q1 2019. This represented 8.03% growth in internet subscriptions Quarter on Quarter and 17.10% Year on Year.

Further Breakdown:

Lagos State has the highest number of subscribers in terms of active voice per State in Q1 2020 and closely followed by Ogun and Kano States respectivelyBayelsa and the Ekiti States have the least number of subscribers.Lagos State has the highest number of subscribers in terms of active internet per State in Q1 2020 and closely followed by Kano and Ogun States respectivelyBayelsa and the Ebonyi States have the least number of subscribers.

Also, the report stated that “MTN has the highest share of voice subscription, this is closely followed by AIRTEL, GLO, EMTs (9mobile) and others respectively. Similarly, MTN has the highest share of internet subscription and followed by GLO, AIRTEL, EMTS and Others.”
