In whom we have resumption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace. Ephesians 1:7

The phrase " riches of his grace " expresses the value of God's unmerited favour toward us. In Ephesians 1:7, the word riches means " abundant and precious ". Abundant and precious aren't always compatible concepts. A diamond is precious because it is not found in abundance. Abundance means a lot of something and precious means rare or unique. What makes God's grace precious is that the purchase price for our redemption is the blood of Jesus. However, Paul declares that the grace of God we enjoy is both precious and abundant. Abundant suggests the manner in which those riches are distributed. We do not receive a sampling of His grace! He lavishes His grace on us! The picture is that God indulges himself in the luxury of pouring His grace upon our lives. Our forgiveness is based solely on the riches of God's grace. God chooses to forgive us because His grace is both exceedingly abundant and precious beyond imagination. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2: 8-9

You can't earn forgiveness.
You can't buy it.
You can't achieve it.
You can't accomplish bit.
You can't become so good that you deserve it.

God chooses to grace us with forgiveness not because we are so worthy and wonderful, but because Jesus made us worthy and wonderful by the shedding of his blood. The only thing that is required of us to receive forgiveness is to admit that we need it and to ask Him for it. Forgiveness is a grace gift from God, and there is no genuine forgiveness apart from Him. Many people in the world today are trying to forgive themselves for horrible sins. They are looking into mirrors and saying to themselves," I'm okay. I'm good. I'm just fine the way I am." Apart from Christ, they are trying to forgive what they have no authority or power to forgive. Out of the unfathomable riches of God's grace, the limitless and precious grace of God, we are swept away in the tide of His ocean of mercy and find ourselves going beyond our own redemption to extend God's grace to others
