Paper wallet. He created 12 new Bitcoin addresses and sent those funds to the addresses. Those codes they're talking about are the private keys of those 12 Bitcoin addresses.

If anyone find the paper he wrote those private keys on, the person don hammer big time. They just have to import the private keys into their Bitcoin wallet (online or hardware). The person with the private keys own the coins

I know Sir, na the guy wey say Dem fir decrypt PrivateKey I dey refer to

There is no log in when you are using hardware wallet. The device is something that looks like a flash drive. Anytime you want to perform a transaction, you plug in the device to your USB port, launch the software, enter PIN and do your transaction.

While doing the transaction, you go offline. The software will "send" the coins to the address you want to send it to, while you are still offline (it signs the transaction). You must press a button on the device to complete the transaction. That means even if someone takes remote control of the computer, they cannot send anything because they must press a button on the device itself. The hardware device is also cheap (less than $60).

The way hardware wallets are designed, hacking is not much of an option. People that control huge funds use cold storage to get absolute privacy.

The fact that Woodberry was using only one Bitcoin address shows that he was using cold storage (probably paper) because it's not easy to keep track of multiple Bitcoin addresses.

Have you read this news? The FBI already has access to some of their Bitcoin details. I told you. There are certain tools special agents use for operations like this in collaboration with other American tech companies. So far you use the internet to defraud Americans, they can definitely track you down. Forget blockchain whatever - the FBI/CIA have secret/super agents that run many of these things. When I showed that my guy doing his PhD on this stuff your comment, he just laughed and told me the FBI will already have access to all their Bitcoin addresses by now because they would have tracked the transfer of funds and transaction IDs to their wallets - using data mining systems.

The only people American agencies find it hard to track are Chinese and Russians - and that is because they don’t really rely on American internet for their own operations.

FBI Says It's Seized $28.5 Million In Bitcoins From Ross Ulbricht, Alleged Owner Of Silk Road[b]

Maybe he kept the passphrase in his computer?
Plus on Wikipedia they said they tracked through his trails not by sitting and brute forcing his computer.

Once they’ve convicted you, finding out where you stored your passphrase is significantly easier ( that’s why cold storage is the best-non electronically)

And they can easily access private keys via advanced data mining. That’s my point. So far you have ever typed in your private keys while accessing your wallet(or address if you prefer that) online, your data can be mined using certain exclusive and advanced tools. They can also use network sniffing technology depending on circumstances. There are several ways the FBI can hack into any Bitcoin address or wallet. Many of these techniques are highly classified. They will just announce that they have accessed certain Bitcoin addresses but they won’t really tell you how.

There’s like 2^212 bitcoin addresses out there. Upon PGP and everything. If you like carry Emegwali’s computer, it cannot be cracked using today’s technology

The problem with bitcoin is that anyone can see what you’re doing. So if you do phishing and tell a business to transact to your bitcoin address and then you transfer it from there to somewhere else, any Dick and Harry with an internet connection can see it.
The right (better actually, seeing that it’s ethically wrong anyway) thing to do would have been to divert the funds to some random bank account, collect the actual cash, split it up, deposit different portions of the cash into unrelated accounts, and then slowly fund the final bitcoin wallet — virtually undetectable)
Of course, all that wouldn’t make any sense if you used the same computer, so it’d have been even better if you transferred the cash to another country, and deposited it from a VPN over Tor in a VM in another VM - and then delete both VMs immediately with military grade techniques.

Just sayin’

Tracking is what they're talking about, not hacking.

I downloaded and read the full report of both Hush and Woodberry the same day they were released on US Justice department website. There was no hacking involved. They simply contacted the owner of the bank account money was wired to for purchase of Bitcoin. They showed him that the money used for that purchase was from fraud. He cooperated and gave them the BTC address the Bitcoin was sent to. With that address, they contacted Bitcoin payment processor service providers and wallet companies (like Coinbase, BitPay, Blockchain, etc) to run a check on all transactions involving that particular address, to see if anyone has used that address to make payment through them (by them, I mean the Bitcoin payment processor and wallet companies). It happened that Woodberry used that BTC address to make payment through BitPay he supplied his email address (hustle...) in the course of the transaction. All they had to do was contact Apple and Google to furnish them with all they have on that email address. Apple searched their database and showed them that an iCloud account was created with that email address. That's where they saw incriminating stuffs that he had backed up (iPhone users know about this). Nothing sophisticated about the investigation.

Woodberry didnt even make it hard for them. You don't make "anonymous" payment using your real identity. Always create a new email and BTC addresses for every BTC transaction. Don't forget to mix your coins, then run the funds through Monero and ZCash then back to BTC. By the time you're done, there would be no trail left to follow.

Your identity is the key. Hide it. Internet is Internet everywhere. It's just a network. There's no magic involved. They can only bank on your negligence or errors

Yen yen yen
This is the rubbish they want you all to believe.
The FBI is not omniscient neither are they omnipotent there is nothing like hacking into a bitcoin wallet, the best they can do is search through his email for a folder where his wallet private is hidden or get it on his phone or laptop.

This same all knowing attribute we've ascribed to the USA in our heads is what is stopping some people from doing great things.

Our almighty USA showed the world how powerless, unskilled and unprepared it is when it comes to combating unforeseeable events that can bring the world to its toes. The Covid-19 pandemic is one major example.

Lol. This is not about America. This is about a field I know so much about. I have folks working on their PhD thesis in Cybersecurity stuff using data mining. I’ve seen them do most of these things in my presence. It’s very possible to hack into anybody’s bitcoin wallet using data mining tools. Maybe you should go and read about data mining and machine learning algorithms.

And about America’s response to the pandemic, it’s more about the conservative leadership of Trump. See how Cuomo is approaching things in NY.

Baba, hacking is not magical. It's not. Some voodoo technique.

First, you must identify the person behind the address, which is almost impossible if the person is cyber security conscious.

Second, you have to acquire the target network. That is, the computer network of the entity whom you have identified to be behind the address. Computer network here doesn't mean mobile network like MTN and co. You must infiltrate their computer network.

Third, your listening tools (spywares, rootkits, worms, etc) must remain undetected in the network.

Fourth, you have to wait for the person to use that network to perform a transaction using that particular address you wish to acquire the private key. A person in custody will not perform a transaction. Anyone who does that is not security conscious. Never spend directly from the fat address. The best move is to send the funds to a new address and spend from there.

Also, security conscious people don't use Bitcoin wallet companies (Blockchain, Coinbase, BitPay, etc) because these companies get to see the private keys of their clients. Instead, they use hardware wallet or paper wallet (cold storage). Hardware wallet allows you to complete a transaction offline within the software that comes with the hardware wallet, before finally registering the transaction on the Blockchain. This means that even a spyware cannot see your private keys because everything about the transaction happens inside the software. You don't type any private key except you want to import coins into your hardware wallet.
WORD! Thanks.

More woes As Hushpuppi Launder Funds For North Korean Hackers.

After many years of defrauding people, companies, and nations, self-acclaimed billionaire Gucci master, Ramon Abass, better known as Hushpuppi met his waterloo in 2020 when he defrauded the US of over 100 million dollars in the middle of a pandemic.

In a joint operation with the UAE security department, INTERPOL, and the FBI, the Nigerian-born fraudster who had been disguising himself as an Instagram Influencer was arrested in his Dubai residence.

Despite his criminal trial delayed due to the pandemic, the US department of justice said he faces up to 20 years imprisonment if convicted of the charges against him. Sadly, Hushpuppi is seemingly going to be behind bars for longer years as he is linked to a new conspiracy to launder 14.7 million dollars of money and cryptocurrency for North Korean hackers.

On February 17, 2021, the US Justice Department announced more news about HushPuppi’s criminal activities and what will be done about his case.
