Raw Truth About The South East And 2023 by omenka(m): 12:57pm On Jul 08, 2020
I come in peace.

Earlier today, news broke of the PDP leaders from the East blasting the former governor of Benue state, Gabrial Suswam, over his comments regarding the zoning of the party's presidential ticket in 2023. This has necessitated me to pen this down.

It is no longer news permutations of who succeeds Buhari or flies what party's in 2023 is well under way even though were barely a year into the second term of the current presidency. Wierd as it may seem, Nigeria operates a very unique political environment wherein preparations for the next general elections is kickstarted by politicians the very moment one is dispensed with, the result of which, most times,
is an overheating of the polity and a derailment or distraction of the incumbent administration.

At the forefront of this is the question about the future of the South East, a political block inseparably committed to the protection and sustenance of the PDP- a commitment it has demonstrated for over two decades. Now, for such an unwavering loyalty to a course, it is only just and logical that a handsome reward be given them. In the East, it hardly matters what candidates comes forward, but as long as it isn't a PDP candidate, they'd surely have an Evarest to climb to succeed.

The same is true for the APC and South West (although sentiments in the West have some stark contrast to those in the East, as the West is more likely to be swayed by the candidates than it is the party).

The question then arises: would the PDP really risk ceding their ticket to their poster region, the South East?

This writer thinks it is patently unlikely that is gonna happen, even though no one else deserves it more. Here is why:

The ruling APC is poised to cede their ticket to the South West as a demonstration of gratitude for their support. With the help of Buhari and other die hard political offsprings of his (I say this because alone, he might not be able to pull off what he did in the past. His image has no doubt suffered some degree of damage in the North, no thanks to the ongoing security challenges), and some governors (since their fate is inseparably tied to the fate of the party), the APC remains a formidable force in the North and they're likely to still vote for the party come 2023. In addition to that, APC still enjoys popular support in other Swing States like Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa and indeed Kaduna. The West No doubt would as well vote the APC given that their son or daughter is flying the banner.

With these in mind, what exactly would the chances of a candidate of South East extraction be? The entire South East and a good chunk of, if not 90%, the South South, can't see to the ascendency of candidate East on a PDP banner. It therefore, if my thinking serves me right, might be a defeatist strategy for the PDP to even tinker with such an idea. And frankly, you can not blame them.

As a matter of fact, it is far more likely for a candidate to emerge from the West on a PDP ticket than it is from the East given the current realities on ground- sad but true. Especially when the incumbent party is taking hers to the West.
If I might add, irrespective of what PDP makes its mind up on, the APC's ticket is going West.

In addition, the party's outlook on an Eastern candidate isnt helped by the activities of IPOB, an idea some power blocks imagine is being tacitly accented to by the leaders in the East due to their reluctance to openly castigate those behind such agitations.

So ladies and gentlemen what, in your opinion, do you think is truly the chances of the East clinching the party's ticket given that it appears the leaders of the party in the region are surreptitiously demanding for it?

Cheers.

It wouldn't be the first time. Let them air their views, and if nee be, vent their frustrations as well. I'd take no offence on this one.

They deserve it on APC how? The same way the East feels PDP insults their sensibilities talking about a northern pdp candidate is how the West would feel.

Even the bible says a worker deserves their wages.

How he comes is not important, either in peace or war.

What is important is what he came with.

Keep deceiving yourselves.

Those advocating for igbo presidency don't know what they are asking for.
Peradventure such happens, the kind of gang up and opprobrium such igbo president will receive from Nigerians will make even the devil shudder in astonishment.
the only way for the Igbo man in Nigeria is separation.period

south east is the new celebrity in Nigeria, hardly a day passes without you seeing people talking about the Igbos indeed if you're nobody, no one is gonna talk about you.... to our zombie brothers we have proven to you many times that our political leaders do not dictate for us like tunubu do for his people....... You all can remember how we disgrace ekeweremadu and even threatened to do more, we do not care who rules over this failed country. You all bragging about ruling this country, is your region more developed than the other region The only thing we the south east youths care about is restructure or we go our sperate ways. But if you think a Yoruba man will rule by 2023, then we'll rather vote for Fulani man to continue ruling us, all us to suffer am, let's see who's gonna cry more grin cheesy

It is a risk for any serious party to zone their party ticket to south east.

Good and fine but are igbos prepared for the consequences of separation? Are you prepared to lose your property and absorb almost 10 million refugees?

SE presidency is not negotiable. The reality is, that the Igbo political class is the only stumbling block delaying secession. Thus, if a SE doesn't emerge as president in the next election, non-Igbo people will lose the only bulwark in the SE holding Nigeria together.

Some people who have less than 1% chance of getting APC ticket are working about south east and igbos

The silence from Igbo politicians is killing them , they have no idea what igbos are planing or who they are planning with ,

I feel your pain bro , igbos are about to teach yorubas politics 101 ....

When we are done u would be worthless in. APC ...your dare not leave APC even else tinubu would be in prison

We won't be as selfish as yorubas , we would carry yorubas along , make sure they get what's due to them , raise new Yoruba leaders ...unite yoruba ,igbos and south south , middle belt n northern minorities ....

Igbos have been insulting all other tribes if the country including their half brothers like Ijaw, Kalahari, Ibiobio and others down South. They have even turned Northern and South Western tribes to objects of ridicule. Now, Igbos want these tribes that they have been abusing to support them. That will never happen.
