So I decided to write an article on how I was able to conquer masturbation and pornography through God’s help. With my will power, I have battled with this addiction for over 15 years without victory. This experience has made me appreciate the scripture that says “My people perish through lack of knowledge”. When you apply the keys, addictions and problems that plague us will literally melt away.

I tried so many things to stop but nothing worked permanently. For me, my masturbation addiction was fueled by watching pornography. Hence if I could cut off pornography, I had won 70% of the battle. I show you a more excellent way - Here are the practical steps I took:

1. Covenant Eyes: I installed the mobile app “Covenant Eyes” and I literally felt the urge to watch porn melt away. The app works by installing a VPN on your phone that prevents you from accessing explicit sites. When my mind knows that I cannot physically access those sites – the urge to watch those materials significantly reduces. Another thing I did was to stay within the boundaries that this app created for me. This means that I never tried to circumvent or bypass the app. The app charges $15.99 monthly. Paying for this month is also part of the discipline. You also get an accountability partner that keeps you straight.

2. Cutting Time on Social Media: Social media (IG in particular) was another trigger for me. I have intentional cut down my time on social media to 1hr 30 mins daily. Do yourself a favor and track the amount of time spent on social media and you’ll realize how much time is wasted on surfing the internet aimlessly. I set a timer on my phone and strictly followed this restriction. This helped me a lot with discipline. If I could discipline myself with addictive social media then I can cut out other vices.

3. I am Sober: I installed the mobile app “I am Sober” to help me track my daily sobriety progress. I daily pledge to stay sober and logged my progress. The more days I accumulated, the more I didn’t want to go back. They give you rewards for each milestone you achieve and there is a community of people that post their experiences. I’ve currently exceeded the 70 days mark. On days I feel low, I read comments of people who have been sober for 6 months, 1 year and more. This serves as a huge motivation. This app is free.

4. Better Habits: I picked up more productive habits like exercising daily and reading Christian books. I read a book on “Regions of Captivity” by Anna Farrell and I got to appreciate the spiritual dimension of masturbation and addictions in general. Anything that tries to dominate your will power is certainly demonic because even God gave us our will power freely.

5. Praying Daily and Praying in the Spirit: We can do all things through Christ that strengthens us – including conquering masturbation. Praying daily has given me Grace and strengthened me to fight and conquer the addiction on a daily basis. My motivation to break this addiction was my love for God.

These steps greatly reduced the urge to the point that my will power could easily overcome. Please know that this is a daily fight but it gets easier each passing day.

I know a couple of people will comment that there is nothing wrong with masturbation or the post is too long but this message is not for them. This message is for people serious about breaking these chains. Please try the steps above – you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.
I’ve realized that masturbation is one of the perfect tools that enemy uses to keep souls bound. For masturbation, the victim is in a perpetual helpless cycle that gives the enemy legal right to afflict.

If you are currently battling with this addiction, please know that it is a battle you can surely win. Try these steps I’ve listed above and by the Power in the Blood of Jesus, you will be set free.
