I walked into my office side by side with Ike my P.A,i walked up to the stationed air conditioner and turned it on.
I walked to my swivel chair and sank into it.
"Is anything the problem sir"Ike asked me.
"No,do i look like i needed one"i replied hastingly.
"You look depressed, Mike"
"Do I"I asked as i booted my system,anyway where is my secretary"I asked changing the topic.
"The new personnel manager sent her home on a maternity leave"Ike replied.
"Why will Charles do that without my consent"I asked.
"C'mon,its his job,besides the letter of permission is on your table,he just relieved her this past weekend when you went to Magodo.But did he not tell you?"Ike asked.
"No,we dont live in the same house any longer,he moved to his new house at Bonny Island"
"Ohh,he announced it last friday in his aaset broadcast.So you now stay alone in that house"
"Yes i do"I replied absentmindedly as i punched the keys on my system.
"I will love to be leaving now"Ike said and opened the door.

I was on my system working when the door flung open and Charles flounced in,he was all smiles.
"Hi pal,long time.You did not stop over in my office to see me.Its unlike you"he announced his presence and sat down opposite me.
"Yeah,i had a lot of work to do.I forgot to see you,but all the same i want to see you"I replied with my eyes still glued to my system.
"So now that i am here,what did you want to see me for"Charles asked.
I adjusted my swivel chair to face him squarely.
"Why did you send my secretary on leave"I asked.
"are you talking about Amanda your assistant"?Charles asked absent mindedly.
"Yes about her"I quipped.
"Ohh,i am the personnel manager"

"Like i knew you were coming,i prepared a delicious Rice and snail stew well laced with chicken"Amanda replied as she opened a glass container on the table.
"Hmmm,then no need stopping over at any fast food to buy dinner because i will eat here"I cajoled.
"You know i cook better than those fast food"Amanda said laughing while she dished the food into a plate.
"Its obvious,i can see"I replied.

I bursted into laughter at the drama being performed before my face.

Amanda pushed the food to me,i prayed as usual on the food before i consumed my appetite on it.I requested for more and was served.
After eating,Gina left the sitting room for us.
As soon as i ensured we had privacy.I started the discussion.

"What question again is this?i thought you asked your friend to give me maternity leave"Amanda replied in surprise.
"I didn't"I replied immediately.
"But he told me you asked that i go on maternity leave,i never doubted him afterall he is my boss"She replied.I sighed.
Why did Charles lied with my name?Why did he want Amanda out of the office.

"I did not endorse that,beside,i was not around last week,so how could i order that.Why didnt you call to confirm"I asked.
"Why should i do that?I never doubted and beside it never occur to me that Charles will tell me lies in your name"She replied.
I became alert immediately.
"I confronted him today at the office for doing that but he appears to mean no harm.He said he wanted to give you leave as it was his responsibility now as the new personnel manager but the fact he used my name for that remains a invalid puzzle"I said.
"I dont seem to trust your friend.He has changed toward me these days.He treats me warmly these days and does his best to make me happy but why did he just change suddenly from the personality i knew him as"
"Amanda dear,listen,he have come to realise the fact that he cant seperate us now so he resigned to fate"

I joined the hallway leading to my office that night.I discovered i forgot to pick my laptop.The security men were already on guard when i entered.I allowed them search me properly before one of the heavily armed guard,Hanson by name,escorted me.
Hanson stopped suddenly at the hallway and gave me a sign which i quickly adhered when i heard the noise coming from my office.
"Boss,do you hear that noise from the direction of your office"Hanson asked me.
"Yes"I replied as my heartbeat became faster.
"Did you leave any electrical appliances unswitched off?perhaps your T.V?"Hanson asked apprehensively as he cocked his pistol.
"No i am sure i switched off every thing if i am not mistaken"I replied.My heart beat was thumping harder now,i started sliding backward as I watched Hanson tiptoed surreptitiously towards my office door.
Hanson suddenly turned towards me,his face revealed cruelty now,he advanced toward me like a tiger stalking its prey waiting for the best moment to strike.
I saw the devil in Hanson.
