Although, the alleged disqualification of the governor was yet to be made public, it was reliably gathered that some bigwigs in the party, who got wind of the situation, had intervened to save Governor Akeredolu from the embarrassment of not participating in the exercise.

There is currently anxiety in government circle in Ondo State following the alleged disqualification of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu from the party's governorship primary election by the All Progressives Congress screening committee.

Although, the alleged disqualification of the governor was yet to be made public, it was reliably gathered that some bigwigs in the party, who got wind of the situation, had intervened to save Governor Akeredolu from the embarrassment of not participating in the exercise.

It was learnt that Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi, was leading moves to get the disqualification overturned.

Reports had earlier emerged on Saturday that Segun Abraham was the aspirant disqualified by the screening committee but his media office quickly debunked the claim.

The APC has fixed its governorship primary election for July 20, while the Independent National Electoral Commission scheduled the governorship election for October 10, 2020.

The aspirants, who participated in the Ondo APC screening exercise include Joseph Olusola Iji, Odimayo Okunjimi, Olayide Owolabi Adelami, Isaacs Duerimini Kekemeke, Olusola Oke Alex, lfeoluwa Olusola Oyedele and Olajumoke Olubusola Anifowoshe.

Others are Awodeyi Akinsehinwa Akinola Colinus, Olubukola Adetula, Dr Abraham Olusegun, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and Dr Nathaniel Adojutelegan.

But there are fears already over the fate of the state governor in participating in the APC governorship primary election as the leadership of the party was yet to release the result of the screening committee.

SaharaReporters gathered that the party decided to hold on to the result of the screening since it didn't favour the governor.

A source at the party's headquarters in Abuja told our correspondent that the screening committee discovered how Akeredolu had been involved in anti-party activities, leading to the low votes recorded by President Muhammadu Buhari in Ondo during the 2019 election.

The source explained that the committee also had some weghty petitions against the governor, forcing them to put the result of the screening on hold.

"The main problem we are battling with in Ondo now is that we have discovered that people have turned against the governor and we are scared of fielding him as our candidate for the October election," the source said.

He revealed that the national leadership of the party had also realised that there was no method of primary adopted that would work in the favour of the governor.

According to him, the 11 other aspirants screened had written to the committee to reject any indirect mode of primary election.

The source added that none of the aspirants was ready to step down and support the second term ambition of the governor after they were all interviewed in Abuja.

"What we heared was that five out of the 11 aspirants are for the governor and he gives them money to buy forms but we later found out that they were all lies because we interviewed all of them and they disclaimed it.

"But we know some of them would still step down and that is if we pick a candidate that would be accepted to them but not Akeredolu," the source added.

Reacting to the issue, the governor's Senior Special Assistant on Media, Oyewamide Ojo, said that the news of his disqualification was a ploy to distract his supporters.

He said, "This is yet another distraction unleashed with the aim of deceiving the unsuspecting public and diverting attention from the self-imposed pains on the part of those behind the story. It is clearly, coming from those who have chosen the perfidous political path.
"Governor Akeredolu is not just participating at the party primary, he shall be re-elected by the grace of God come October 10, 2020."

If this report of the disqualification of governor Akeredolu by his party screening committee is true then it can be assumed that governor Akeredolu shot himself on the foot.

He refuse to cross over to the PDP he was comfortable with the fact that he had a SEMI GOOD RECORD WITH BUHARI and to some little extent Oshiomole too except for Tinubu who had his own candidate for governor in Ondo state.

THROUGHOUT THE TRAVAIL OF GOVERNOR OBASEKI OF EDO STATE, GOVERNOR AKEREDOLU NEVER UTTER A WORD EITHER IN THE SUPPORT OF OBASEKI OR OTHERWISE.

He want to be SEEN TO BE POLITICALLY CORRECT BEFORE HIS FULANI SLAVE MASTERS.

Now that the chips are down AKEREDOLU should now STEW IN HIS OWN JUICE.

Even if he cross over to PDP, they won't feed him as their candidate. That is how bad his acceptance is within the state. Akeredolu isn't loved and he has no grassroot support. Why is he afraid of direct primary in a state where you have absolute control unlike Lagos governors. Even Obaseki was confident of winning the primary and APC could do is to disqualfy him.

Is APC serious or there is an internal plan to destroy the party.

The sitting governor una wan disqualify am? So who go more popular pass the sitting governor?

On what grounds are the disqualifying him? Former president NBA no serve or he no get degree? With APC nothing surprises me again.

UI talk say Obaseki certificate is genuine but APC talk e fake. NYSC they talk say e no do. When he do.

They wont make the mistake to disqualify him.

Oga, its not only certificate that disqualify people when screened. Its a plethora of issues ranging from anti party activities of which Akeredolu spearheaded in the last general elections where he campaigned against his party and he fairly succeeded as the President lost in ondo state. Very few APC House members and Senators were returned because Akeredolu used all his resources to work against them. I guess its payback time for the party. You did not read the content of the OP I believe.

Just get up & disqualify a sitting governor? Democracy is a joke. The impunity & anarchy the APC have instituted will surely consume it.

But what is soooo special in a sitting Governor, President or political position. If the politics of the day does not go in their favour, so be it. In develop climes, there is no such thing as sitting this or sitting that. If the people or party don't fancy you, that's some deep shiiit. We should change that mentality please!!

Any of the governors who is not those handpicked by thiefnuubu suddenly turns to "caused party members pains;does not carry party members along;is very arrogant" bla bla bla.
The same propaganda you ppl are using against Fayemi and Obaseki.
The same propaganda which saw Ambode suddenly turn from a performer to non-performer overnight.
Not one accusation of not doing his job well or embezzlement, just "carrying members along" which translates to not sharing money and patronage in Nigerian politics.
If he sponsored AA candidates in d last elections, how does that affect d common Ondo man,are d candidates not Ondo indigenes or you are speaking as som1 with his head still deep inside thiefnuubu's rectum?
How do you people train yourselves in that SW that you are easy to manipulate?

If all this your effort is channel to your region Govs, don't u think u and your people will b better off, Ondo issues are beyond your intellectual capacity, stop your ranting and name calling.

Actually zoning doesn't matter in Ondo.
It's personality.

We were just lucky that zoning played out since 1999,
North first
Then south, followed by Central.

If power goes to North, I too prefer one of the akokos to win it.

If it goes south I prefer Ilaje people.

If it goes central, anyone, should win it, it's not a must for an Akure man to win it.
After all no matter who won it, Akure will still continue to develop.
Anybody except Akeredolu

This is your problem.
In South west we don't accept mediocrity.
Ajimobi is one of the best governor of Oyo, his candidate was voted out.
Aregbesola is the best governor of Osun, his candidate was voted out (but rigging played out)
Mimiko is the best governor of Ondo, his candidate was voted out.

In ekiti, Fayemi, fayose used 1 tenure each, before they come back to complete it.

Obaseki didn't perform up to Akeredolu
Yet Akeredolu will be voted out.
But Edo people dey support Obaseki sha.
Lol

We make use of our brain here, Abeq.
The likes of ikepazu cannot win 2nd term in Ondo.

Better face your south east jejely, you guys love party instead of personality

Best reply to that Ipob minion ,they won't face their non performing Govs, bloody poke nosers.

Aketi was loved but he missed it along the line..why are his party top stake holders again his second term agenda ? He didn't know how to manage his men..truly it was rumoured that he played antiparty politics during 2019 election..it is pay back time for him..if APC chose him for the election, then PDP will automatically be the next landlord of Alagbaka Govt house
