The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, got a reprieve today as the Federal High Court sitting in Benin City adjourned till October 15 the fraud case instituted against it by the EFCC over the handling of campaign funds totaling 700 million naira in 2015.

The adjournment was announced by the court because the prosecution was not ready, reports indicate.

Tony Aziegbemi and the former Edo PDP Chairman, Dan Orbih, are being asked by the EFCC to account for the party’s management of the campaign funds and its source.

Although Ize-Iyamu, a former member of the party but now the candidate of the APC for the Edo Governorship election, was also named in the case, sources and public accounts have shown that it was merely for his supervisory role as the Edo State Director General of the Campaign in 2015 as he had no direct or personal connection with the handling and spending of the funds.

On their part, the Edo PDP and its leaders have maintained their innocence in the case, explaining that the funds, apart from privately sourced from independent donors, were spent on campaign activities as agreed on by the leadership of the party across all its organs in Edo State.
