Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer snubbed Paul Pogba as he revealed the three main influences in the Old Trafford dressing room.

The Frenchman has appeared rejuvenated since his return from injury in June and the financial effects of the pandemic has given him some much-needed clarity in regards to his future at the club, with Pogba now set to stay for at least another 12 months.

Such scenes looked unlikely just 12 months ago as Pogba spoke of a ‘new challenge’ during an official United sponsorship event on the club’s tour of Asia and Australia.

Pogba has twice asked to leave the club and was stripped of the vice-captaincy under Jose Mourinho for questioning the Portuguese’s tactics after a 1-1 draw at home to Wolves in September 2018.

Solskjaer has successfully reintegrated Pogba into the group but the Norwegian omitted the Frenchman by claiming new boy Bruno Fernandes, as well as Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford, are his three leaders in the dressing room.

Asked to name the leaders in his squad, Solskjaer told the High Performance Podcast: ‘You’ve had an example lately of Marcus Rashford. What kind of human being he is, but also a leader he is by stepping forward. He’s stepped forward on the pitch and off the pitch,

‘He stepped forward, took his first penalty ever for Manchester United, extra time in the Champions league against PSG. He’s never have a penalty before and he takes it and he scores and we’re through. Marcus is a leader.

‘Of course Bruno has come in with the impact he’s made. You can see he’s a leader because players follow him.

‘That was the little spark we needed, I feel, earlier on this season from being a team who should’ve won games to winning more games.

‘And of course the captain Harry Maguire. He’s been there six months and he’s captain of the club.’

United missed their chance to move into third spot by drawing 2-2 against Southampton at Old Trafford on Monday.

Goals from Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford looked to have sealed all three points but Michael Obafemi scored in the 96th minute to ensure United remain outside of the top four.

The Red Devils take on Crystal Palace on Thursday before an FA Cup semi-final clash against Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday.
