What Educational Video Games Offer To Kids by Chidosman99(m): 7:33pm On Jul 21, 2020
It’s a fact generally known that video games can lead to such vices in children like addictions, violent behaviour, mental laziness, etc.
However, an important truth has been overlooked in this generalisation; there are educational video games too.

Several studies reveal that children can improve academically by engaging in certain gaming activities. These educational video games and simulators can teach kids educational skills. Some video games are designed to teach children algebra, biology, photography, and computer programming. There are also many more designed to build basic knowledge on different subjects and topics.
It has also been found that children’s sense of self-esteem, leadership skills, socialization skills, and team-building skill can be improved by appropriate games.

Below are some benefits of introducing educational video games in your kid’s education.

Improved Critical Thinking Skills and Reading Comprehension.

When kids play video games, they put themselves in the shoes of the characters. They also immerse themselves in a place or culture that they are learning about in the classroom. When applied in education, it gives them interactive experiences and more excited about the learning. It also increases long-term retention in them. Therefore, introducing video games education can help children immerse themselves more into the learning since they’re also actively involved.

Healthy Competition among Students

It also benefits children’s learning to have healthy competition as humans are social beings. This is mostly utilised in video games by having two players playing together simultaneously. It gives the children an early understanding of healthy competition. While competition is applicable in situations such as quizzes, exams, and other classroom activities, video games make sure children nurture competition and strive to be the best.

Speed and Accuracy

Using video games in education can teach the kids the true value of speed and accuracy. Since a lot of games are timed, children can challenge themselves and others to break an existing time record, or finishing first in a race, or even completing a task on time. This generally has a positive effect on the children’s cognitive abilities, allowing them to learn the importance of finishing tasks on time. Their overall educational performance will be improved by this as they become more disciplined to the concept of time.

Improved General Classroom Learning

Video games in the classroom have a way of enhancing the kids learning experience once the gaming activities are complete. Teachers can bring up topics related to informative video games, giving the children a chance to narrate simulation with reality. Mathematics, for instance, is a subject that can leverage this option. When children play a game about budgeting and are then taught the details, it will encourage them to become more curious, heightening their appetite for education.

The bottom line is, integrating video games in educational sessions by more schools and families will be a valuable way to encourage our kids to learn in a new and different way. With the big part of the learning experience that technology is becoming, it would be unwise not to appreciate the role that video games play in education.
