Journalism is dead, Osinbajo just chaired the power reforms team in 2020 and not in 2016. All this rubber stamp newspaper will just be attaching the name of the VP in other to have traffic on their page. mtweeeeeeeeew

This is mischievous the Vp has never signed anything pertaining to that, The only thing that was signed is the Siemens deal and it was done by the President.

So Osibanjo was actually a thief indeed. A self-acclaimed pastor conniving with politicians to steal billions from the masses.
I am not surprised of your comments because your father was among of those who looted during previous administration and you are not happy the way this good governance is doing

I think the two supporting horses and eagle on the coat of arm of Nigeria should be replaced with images of people weeping, unemployed, and in abject poverty. Other parts of the coat of arm should show images of massive looting by politicians and top govt officials. That's what Nigeria truely is.
That is exactly how mumu and inexperienced someone talks

Fake news from the haters. He has not signed any power deal at all. The shoddy report appears to be referring to 2016, when Fashola was Power Minister and Osinbajo had absolutely NOTHING to do with power.

That's always the problem with us in Nigeria bro.

We are expecting a saviour.

The truth is, there's very little Osinbajo can do with the kind of Senate and Reps we have.

Can't you see that the system is built on a rotten foundation?

Even if Jesus Christ comes to Nigeria today to be the executive president, he'll still fail.

If Osinbajo becomes president he'll make the little positive changes he can make and that's all.

In fact, people might be disappointed if he doesn't do more than the Constitution permits him to do.

That's why we need to dismember this country. This abomination of a nation that serves the interest of only the elites.

We need our own country where people will not be trying everything in their power to escape from.

We need a country of our own where Yoruba people all over the world would be proud to associate with.

We need a country of our own where the fundamental ruling principle is Ọmọlúwàbí.

We need a country that supports the aspirations of its people.

That country is not Nigeria, can never be Nigeria.

Osinbajo can become president. All well and good. But it's not going to translate to anything positive for Yorubaland.

Obasanjo was president for 8 years. We are still as backwards as we were in the 50s, maybe even more so.

Sorry for the long post. I couldn't help it. embarassed

Well said.

So start with, the FG is trying to do the right thing, but they are still half stepping and disingenuous in so many ways for so many reasons starting from protecting Nigerians by hiding the sad realities that for the generation, the distribution and transmission enties to operate successfully and financially solvent, they must inflict necessary pains on Nigerians in form of increased and well justified tariffs , something the average Nigerian is yet to come to terms with and definitely won't stomach and understand.

Back to the clueless and deceptive lawmakers, in one breath they want to terminate or restructure one agreement because of huge financial burden while at the same time advocating that we should keep loaning out funds to and meet subsidizing obsolete, unproductive DISCO and GENCO that we've already spent N1.2 trillion on even though they admitted that the privatization agreement that created them was flawed and corrupt.

Messing with that agreement means we should forget about foreign investors investing in our power sector, the crooked lawmakers are only looking out for their GENCO and DISCO cronies.

The problem as usual is greed on the part of the GENCOs, DISCOs and the corrupt politician friends because the Azura payments in question comes from the FG power subsidy account, they set up the fund to pay the GENCOs and the DISCOs, but the've been paying Azura out of that fund, meaning they are sharing the money with Azura which they are against, they want every kobo, they basically don 't want to share that money with Azura, they want the FG to separately fund the monthly Azura payment elsewhere so they hired the corrupt lawmakers to do their bidding by deceptively attacking Azura in favor of the GENCO and DISCO cronies by asking the FG to keep subsidizing and loaning money to the DISCO and the GENCO.

The lawmakers are part of the scam.

Junk Journalism everywhere, the most saddening part of all this is that this junk of a News is published by a supposed reputable Newspaper outlet. My question for that dumb editor, is quite simple. How does a deal signed in 2016 bind on a committee formed in 2020. I hope Orji Uzor Kalu is not playing to the hands of Fake News Peddlers around him.

This report simply targeted VP Osinbajo. It said many things in general but nothing substantial in particular. We play politics with too many things in this country but lack the capacity for critical and strategic thinking.

My dear senators, the point to start is the IMMEDIATE review of that FAULTY privatization that gave to DISCOS and GENCOS that still guzzle money like dry sand does to water instead generating power. Fix the faulty foundation, first. Any other thing is simply muddling things or looking for money to loot.

Gencos not really at fault ,if the fed (Transco) expands the distribution grid we would have more power.

But you are right on the discos, the know that light or no light them go charge and collect their money month end ,so why invest into the discos ? as major shareholders in the discos the fed is looking the other way while the discos refuse to implement the use of pre paid meters.

The only way to get steady light in Nigeria is if we dissolve the national grid totally allowing investors to not only generate but distribute power to clients (then the worry would be price of power). It's working in Ariaria with it's ipp ,why don't they allow cities with the means to run their own independent power sector

what is the deal that Osinbajo signed? Were they part of the pdp govt that privatized power?. The report did not even specify exactly what they did wrong. The bunch of stupid house members are just making noise to pretend to Nigeria that they are working. Why can't they meet with them and seek clarification of things. A professor of law and who have been running a world class law firm for over 40yrs will just sign an agreement without knowing the implications.. Shior!!

PDP didn't sign Azura deal that will make FG lose $1.2b . Read and be informed.

What necessitated signing such agreement that will push the FG to pay $33m monthly to a power station whether they generate or not?

Read before commenting.

The Presidential Power Reform Transaction, which was headed by Osibanjo when the deal was struck obligated Nigeria to pay between $30 million and $33 million monthly to Azura for power for powers generated, even if not “dispatched.”

The power generated is expected to be transmitted through the national grid — by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The Senate at its plenary, yesterday, said Nigeria stands to lose about $1.2 billion if the country defaults or revokes the current agreement with power generation companies.

Chairman of the Senate committee on Power, Gabriel Suswam, while briefing the Senate on the existing agreement, said part of the deal the Federal Government had during the power sector reforms was that the investors will have the legitimacy to pull about $1.2 billion from the country’s foreign reserve.

Senators who spent over two hours debating the issue agreed that in order to have constant power supply, the existing power sector agreements on two power plants carried out by the administration of President Buhari must be reviewed

Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, Babatunde Fashola and others who were part of the team are believed to have erroneously signed an agreement that was not in favour of Nigeria.
This is where the claim comes, read very well before you support theif called politicians.

The Azura-Edo IPP is also the first Nigerian power project to benefit from the World Bank’s ‘Partial Risk Guarantee’ structure, specifically created to meet the developing needs of emerging markets world-wide, and political risk insurance for equity and commercial debt from the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, also part of the World Bank group. Significantly, the overall transaction will be underpinned by financial support provided by the Federal Government of Nigeria through a Put and Call Option Agreement agreed by Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Honourable Minister of Finance; complementing the Power Purchase Agreement that was signed in 2013 between Azura and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading PLC (NBET).

1. The Power Purchase Agreement was signed by Okonjo back in 2013, we were already on the hook, not going ahead means breach of contract and anti investors atmosphere.

FG won’t give sovereign guarantees to power investors, says Fashola

By Adejoke Adeogun - December 4, 2018

“The Azura project was not initiated under this administration; it was started by the previous government but they couldn’t complete the paper work because the bureaucracy was not encouraging enough.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has declared that the federal government was no longer keen on providing sovereign guarantees to investors interested in building new power plants in the country.

https://newmail-ng.com/fg-wont-give-sovereign-guarantees-to-power-investors-says-fashola/

2. In 2018, the FG/Fashola actually saw the problem and categorically stoped and refused to Give Sovereign Guarantees to Power Investors.
