Tragedy hit in Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State as up to twelve people lost their lives in a flood that destroyed two communities after a heavy rain that started in the early hours of Saturday.
The two affected communities are Rafinsenyi and Polosa communities.
According to locals, the rain started at 3:00 a.m. on and traped several people inside their homes.
A resident known as, Okechukwu Sunday said because it was dark, they had to wait until the morning before scurrying out for protection, but by then it was too late for many.
Information gathered that some households are still looking for their kids as at when filling this repot
Verifying the report, the director of social at the Suleja LGA, Haruna Garba said 11 persons have been confirmed missing, while numerous houses have been eradicated by the flood.
The Director General of the Niger state Emergence Management Agency NSEMA Ibrahim Ahmed Inga told news men Sunday that six deceased bodies were already reclaimed .
He said five different persons are still missing in a flood and exploration and rescue operation is still on.
According to him , ” shortly it was broadcasted that , people were missing after the early morning rain provoked flood , the state emergency swung into activity for rescue search operation as usual and six deceased bodies were so far recovered” .
He confirmed that the areas the casualty of the flood was recorded were Angwuan Gwari and PDP quarters , saying “we are still on recovery search operations and recieving reports “
