A mattress topper helps to prolong the lifespan of your mattress; hence, you do not have to sleep directly on your mattress when you are using a topper. However, a topper that is in use would certainly get dirty over time. Therefore, if you must keep allergies at bay and maintain proper hygiene, you would have to clean your beddings, especially in a case where you use a mattress topper.

Washing a mattress topper is totally different from washing a cloth, you can just throw your cloth into a washing machine, wash, rinse, spin and even dry but you can't do this with your topper, you know why? Toppers come in many different qualities which mostly are delicate and would require special care. They call for regular cleaning because they attract dust mites. Now the question, how do we go about cleaning a mattress topper? No doubt, there is no general rule that guides how to clean any particular kind of topper, be it memory, foam or fiber, but in this article, we would consider 3 general ways you can use to clean your mattress topper.

Clean a portion at a time
You really don't want a case where you have to wait many days in the raining season trying to see how you can dry your mattress topper when there's something you can do to save yourself the stress. Instead of getting the whole topper wet, you can do portion cleaning. This is when you use stain remover or detergent to clean a particular spot at a time.

Here, you simply mix detergent and water, apply the detergent or baking soda to the portion you want to clean, wait a moment then use your hand to make a circular movement or use clean damp cotton to scrub the stained portion with the mixture. Repeat the process where you have stains but ensure you don't over-wet the topper, afterward, expose it to the sun and leave in to air or dry properly.

Air the topper
Airing your topper may not exactly be a cleaning process, it is certainly a way of maintaining it. Not all types of topper require direct sunlight, we suggest you refer to the user guide to know which is most appropriate for yours. From time to time, air your topper, remember to turn or swap sides so gain an even airing process.

Use a vacuum cleaner
Using a vacuum cleaner can make cleaning your topper very fast and easy. Also, this would help to eliminate dust and dust mite that sticks on the topper. Ensure you place the topper in a way that allows the vacuum cleaner to reach every angle, remember to do the same on the other side and then, leave it to dry. You can do this once a week or biweekly.

Use a topper pad
The easiest way to keep your topper clean is to use a cover or topper pad. This way, you can easily remove and wash the pad either with your hands or a washing machine. The best type of pad is the cotton pads or cover, they are easier to use and suits the skin. With a good topper pad or covering, you can reserve your energy as well as save time.
