First Person To Deposit Money Into A Bank in Nigeria � �

First bank opened their first branch at Kano in 1929. Alhaji Alhassan Dantata, the great grand father of Alhaji Aliko Dangote opened an account with them, depositing 20 camel load of Silver coins, making him the first businessman to deposit money into a bank in Nigeria.

I bet ghosts were not the ones patronising them from 1894 when it first opened shop for business in Lagos

Banking loosely started earlier than 1894 in what is now known as Nigeria.

Commercial banking started in Nigeria in 1872 with the establishment of the African Banking Corporation. It distributed the Bank of England notes for the British Treasury. The First Bank of Nigeria, then the Bank of British West Africa, was set up in 1894 followed by the Barclays Bank,
DCO in 1917 (now known as Union Bank of Nigeria).
