Blower fan motor failure .


I have been having sqeeky noises and intermittent blower motor function since I got this vehicle , so today work was light in the office and I decided to take out the blower motor to inspect and carry out maintenance work on it.


Unlike newer vehicles that have the blower motor installed inside the cabin on the right hand side under the dash, this vehicle has it in the centre behind the firewall. Very convenient position I must say.

Inspected the carbon contact brushes and they still had about 600 more years of life, but they were a bit stiff even though the spring that tensioned them were still functional. So I cleaned out the path where the carbon brushes sit, stretched the springs a bit more , and used sand paper to clean out the copper contact of the armature.


Was also able to sneak in some grease into the bearings

Tested with a battery on the ground , and was quiet and really smooth.

I know that you are aware but will still remind you.. It's not wise and safe to place tools and loosed parts in the engine bay.. some might slip in

So I scrapped off the old under bonnet insulation pad/foam that was already worn out, currently thinking of alternatives to use.

This was done on ours over 10 years ago.
Also a foam-like material tucked into the bonnet.
I believe it must be a material able to withstand some level of heat.

This isn't fire retardant. When excess levels of heat comes, it may go up in flames.
