All sicknesses are the result of sin, so Mankind will continue to experience the evil consequences of sin until God's Kingdom come!
True Christians knew this the endtime as in the last period of human suffering so we are not interested in temporary healing but permanent, that's why we stick to his promise Jehovah our heavenly father, may your name be sanctified, let your kingdom come so that your will be done on earth as it's in heaven Matthew 6:9-10

If he has committed a sin explains it all, this is what i've been trying to say all these while. The spiritual sickness James is talking about is the result of backsliding which may lead to a serious sin, so the prayers of other Christians will heal this kind of sickness!
