Lagos Former Governors Have The World's Best Pension by Nobody: 7:13am On Aug 14, 2020

Despite living a life of obscene opulence, all provided and paid for by Lagos State while in office, Already, immediate past governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, has set the tone on how best to continue eating into the state’s resources and long after his tenure as governor ended. Today, Tinubu has used the cover of the dubious and unprecedented Lagos State Governors’ and Deputy Governors’ Pension Law of 2007 packaged by him before leaving office, to acquire the Lagos State Guest House in Abuja and several buildings in highbrow Ikoyi , in the application of the so- called Lagos Governors’ Pension Law, which requires the state to provide residential houses (among other questionable largesse) for former governor and deputy in their areas of choice.

Former governor is entitled to six new cars every three years and a house in Lagos and another in Abuja. A house in Lagos will cost N500 million and Abuja N700 million. The former governor and family (spouse and children – both married and unmarried) are entitled to free medical, not capped. The ex-governor is entitled to a cook, steward, gardener and other domestic staff.

Others include:
1. 100 per cent Annual Basic Salary of the incumbent governor and same for the deputy governor. This is to be reviewed every five years, where there is salary review of political office holders by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC)
2. Both the former governor and his deputy get 300 per cent of their annual basic salary as Furniture Allowance
3. The two also get 30 per cent of their annual basic salary for Car Maintenance
4. They collect 10 per cent of their annual basic salary for House Maintenance
5. Another 10 per cent of their annual basic salary for Entertainment
6. Twenty per cent of their annual basic salary is for Utility, while personal assistants appointed by them are to collect 25 per cent of their respective annual basic salary.

The above outline is in addition to one residential house for the former governor and deputy governor at any location of their choice in Lagos State; and one residential house in the Federal Capital Territory for the former governor. Further to be provided for the former governor are three cars: one pilot car and two backup cars. The cars are to be replaced every three years.

Akwa Ibom or Rivers state...Lagos state set a bad precedent. Each pension benefit will cost each state billions of naira.

Even former President and Prime Ministers of G7 countries that ran multi-thrillion dollar economies don't enjoy such pension benefits.

Remove the log in your eyes before you try to help others. How many times have you aligned behind others calling out the Peter Obis, the Orji Uzor Kalu, the Ikpeazu, the Wike et all? Are they saints you guys would rather defend?
Spare me the bulls.hit of the raping and poverty tag, we know which region is suffering most from these calamities and that's so much where your wail and focus should be directed not the place that's a lot doing better despite the atrocities you cite against it.
Lagos was making a meagre before Tinubu stepped on board as a governor. Well, we all know how far we've gone since and we're not stopping for anything. If Peter Obi still has his state in such a position it is and you don't see a reason to continue calling him out for contributing to its misfortune, then, you're the one with the utmost shamelessness for putting your attention where it's of no importance. So, Tinubu ain't your problem. Face your politicians looting away your future and that of the unborn generation, if actually you really have an iota of shame left in you.
