I have heard this call repeatedly and its rather unfortunate.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan who constituted the Confab initiated it implementation.

Between him and the Senate led David Mark the process was scuttled because David Mark Senate wanted to abolish the veto power

of the president in the amendment of the constitution.

Good luck for once showed he had liver and called the bluff of the Senate.

Meanwhile the hand over to the new government was just days away.

Hence what could have been a wonderful amendment to the constitution failed. PDP failed.

Andthe same people are now asking the current leadership to do what they ought to have done.

It isn’t. If the recommendations in the Confab reports are implemented, Nigeria ll be much more better.
Sadly, our politicians have orgasms seeing Nigeria in a bad state. Even Obasanjo too had the chance to implement the recommendations on confab but he didn’t..for 8yrs
why drag OBJ into this. When was the CONFAB held. U better stop name calling when you have no fact about an issue. This is character defamation.

Pls allow me educate you. What is a system. What causes the failure of a system. How do you resolve the failures associated with the system. When you have answers to these, then you will understand the opinion of the writer. With this if you feel our problem is corruption, then corruption is what is wrong with the system. Just stating common sence

Keep dreaming.

In that dream of yours, CCTV cameras are free. Data for video upload is free. Police is your friend. Don't wake yet, that dream is too sweet.

Always put things in perspective when thinking.

There is a price for everything.

Security and it's infrastructure is not free. House owners along major streets and roads should incure the cost of fixing and maintaining the cctv in their environment while government handles the aspect of making it available and accessible online...this will be in exchange for reduced house taxes or government taxes them and use the money for providing the service.

Nigerians will go to USA and spend average of $1000 monthly in taxes and Living expenditure but will want to spend $10 in Nigeria and get the same services obtainable there here in Nigeria.

You, my brother, are the one that needs to wake up and start facing reality and ways to make Nigeria work for us.

To criticize is easy but I challenge you to come up with workable solutions for our problems instead of criticising all day with zero result to show for it
Re: Insecurity: Falae, Bode George Ask PMB To Implement 2014 National CONFAB Report by Pharovo(m): 9:18am On Aug 17, 2020
See wisdom.
The problem isn't the unavailability of ideas for a better Nigeria. The problem is the willingness to see it through and do what is right. The willingness is nonexistent
LandMann:
The confab report will not solve our security challenges.

The government needs to urgently create a national security database.

Each police station should be equipped with data collection facility, laptop and finger print scanner at the least... all connected to the national security database.

Any body residing in Nigeria should compulsory go and report and register at the nearest police station covering their area of residence... Once you change address, you must update the information at the nearest police station.

From there things can start to improve.

Then make it compulsory for all house owners along major streets and roads and highways to install at least 4 cctv outside their house facing all corners or face heavy taxes... The cctv should be accessible online as well.

Confab report that was doctored to create more political offices and positions won't solve any security challenge.

The structure we are using as a nation is very, very defective.
We are more than 200 million in population.
The total number of policemen we have is 400,000.
How can that be effective?
Hmmmmmmm, this is deep
Even the 400,000 police about 200,000 are protecting politicans and their families, Banks, Big men and private Businesses. So are left with 200,000 policemen to protect us.

Once again, you're not putting things in perspective. That's sad.

I have more than enough well thought out workable solutions. That confab report you just derided is filled with well thought out consensus solutions to chronic problems in Nigeria, not just what one person thinks.

This country is basically in the wild west phase of development. It's not a political thing. It's a societal thing. Even the politicians are a victim of that phase, even if they're benefiting from this phase. They're not the only ones cashing out massively from it. It's a phase that every democratic society must go through. US, UK, France, etc, all went through this phase and left it (US is gradually returning to that phase). Using countries that have left that phase as a yardstick is just a sad comparison. Compare apples with apples.

That confab report, if implemented, can take us out of this phase. We can shake things up without destroying what we have already built up.

To think that Buhari still has 3years to go .

Unfortunately, Buhari won’t still read the confab reports and even when he does, he doesn’t have the will power to carry out the recommendations therein.
But if it’s to make life difficult for citizens, they’d have implemented one stoopid policy without anyone asking.

but y didn't goodluck implement the report?

Read your response again... All you have done is criticise without proffering your own solution...

Point out which part of my suggestion is not feasible and counter it with a better feasible solution instead of clamouring for a confab report that is more of a political solution that will further impoverish ordinary Nigerians at the expense of the political class.

Tell me what makes it possible for house owners along major roads and streets to install CCTV around their premises while government taps into it and connects to an online database... Counter this with your own solution.

Tell me also why government shouldn't mandate every living person to register their data at a police station close to their area of residence and have a security ID as clearance for assessing social services... Tell me the fault in this and counter it with a better solution.

You can't step into and relocate in Germany today without reporting at a police station... And you will be captured by CCTV from random places before you cross 2 streets. That's one reason their country is so secure. Yet you say it's nonsense and shouldn't be implemented in Nigeria.

And your suggestion is to implement a confab report that seeks to mainly create more political levels and positions so they can all go there to steal... What benefit is increasing the number of states and local government in Nigeria if the people are still not secure and corruption in public sector still smells to the high heavens?

Sometimes you Nigerians just make me weak with your pointless non progressive thoughts and arguments

President GEJ initiated and concluded the 2014 Confab. He was in a better position to implement the Confab report for full one year but didn't do anything on it for reasons better known to him. Now expecting PMB to implement same report, to me, will end up being a wishful thinking.

I'm always disappointed by this daily nonsense call for restructuring in a wrong approach. The CONFAB is constitutionally illegal, if there is need of addressing certain national issues there is a process to follow; we've National assembly and everyone is legally represented there or they just want us to believe they don't share the same interest with their representatives?
Those calling for restructuring need to go back to their constituencies restrategise their political agenda, vote for people with whom they share the same ideology into Senate and House of Reps, ask them to present the restructuring agenda in a clear, convincing & acceptable manner. If the restructuring contents means good for Nigeria let them have the needed quorum and pass the bill.
I really wonder a former Honourable member of National assembly, acclaimed educationists, (educated illiterate), confused politicians (mostly those who lost relevance) calling for president to restructure the country instead of directing their demands to the appropriate channel that has the mandate to listen to them.
If President go against constitution they complain & they're now asking him to do something unconstitutional. When GEJ set up the CONFAB, he was seriously criticised for not following legal channel. Now why can't we try it through National assembly and see if the president will or will not sign the new structure!
