The word “wife”, seems to be losing its dictionary meaning. Divorce is on the increase while many husbands now substitute female robots for wives and for sexual satisfaction. This has been seen as an allegory of male chauvinism of the period, by representing marriage as a master-slave relationship. Science Reporter STANLEY CHIBUIHEM AMALAHA, takes a look at this ugly incidence
By mere looking, you will not believe that these beautiful ‘females’ you are looking at, are not real humans. It will take more than the oratorial prowess of Socrates, the famous Greek philosopher, to convince you that they are not human beings. The truth in the matter is that, those objects are not human beings, they are artificial women, otherwise known as robots.
When robots were first made, the importance of sex, was a minnor. However, as technology improves, female robots, were created. Ever since then, much importance have been paid to sex.

The primary aim of robots then was to carry out domestic, household, and industrial activities efficiently and perform difficult tasks which are lethal to human. For example, robots can dissect the human body perfectly without mistakes when programmed, unlike a medical doctor who quarreled with his wife at home before coming to dissect a patient, may be prone to mistakes because of psychological trauma. However, recent studies show that female robots are now used by men for sexual satisfaction instead of its industrial activities.
Beware! Artificial wives on the increase.
Artificial women have been a common trope in fiction and mythology since the writings of the ancient Greeks. This has continued with modern fiction, particularly in the genre of science fiction. In science fiction, female-appearing robots are often produced for use as domestic servants and sexual slaves, as seen in the film Westworld, Paul McAuley’s novel Fairyland (1995).
Female-appearing robots have also appeared in real-life, with female robot early constructions being crude. The first gynoid, was produced by Sex Objects Ltd, a British company, for use as a “sex-aid”. It was called simply “36C”, from her chest measurement, and had a 16-bit microprocessor and voice synthesiser that allowed primitive responses to speech and push button inputs. Later, other female robots produced include:
• Project Aiko which can speaks Japanese and English languages which sells for 13,000 euro.
• Actroid designed by Hiroshi Ishiguro to be “a perfect secretary who smiles and flutters her eyelids”.
Female-appearing robots have also generated. According to Dr Kingsley Abhulimen, Senior Lecturer Dept of Chemical Engineering University of Lagos, in 1983, a busty female robot named “Sweetheart” was removed from a display at Berkeley college USA after a petition was presented claiming it was insulting to women. The robot’s creator, Clayton Bailey, a professor of art at California State University, USA called this “censorship” and “next to book burning.
The term has been applied to a humanoid robot designed to look like a human female; it has been derived from the word android in response to its linguistically masculine lexical element andro which is perceived as implying a male-styled robot according to some cultural readings.
Gynoid has not gained popularity, however, with the term android being used almost universally to refer to robotic humanoids regardless of apparent gender. The term gynoid was used by Gwyneth Jones in her 1985 novel Divine Endurance to describe a robot slave character in a futuristic China, that is judged by her beauty. Since then, different types of artificial women have been on the increase with different names and applications. Today there are Actroid, sweetheart, project Aiko, Dead girls, Fembot, Gynoids, Sexy robots, machine human, Plastic woman, Sex object’s, Robotrix, Female robot, wifedom, Robotess, among others with Robotess, as the oldest gender-specific term, originating in 1924 from the same source as robot.
Gynoids may be “eroticized”, and some examples such as Aiko include sensitivity sensors in their breats and genitals to facilitate sexual response. The fetishization of gynoids in real life has been attributed to male desires for custom-made passive women, and has been compared to life-size sex dolls.
The reaction of people to robots that appeared female to different degrees has been studied. The reaction of people to such robots has been attributed in part to gender stereotypes. This research has been used to elucidate gender clues, clarifying which behaviors and aesthetics elicit a stronger, gender-induced response. Experts, however, have condemned human beings having sex with robots saying that sterotypes and societal attitudes should not be attered by technological process irrespective that technological bodies of gynoids depict sexism in an unnatural context. They also highlighted its negative impact.
The sexualized images of gynoids have also been interpreted as fetishisation of the female body, racial differences, and technology.
Many artificial women are produced yearly that recently a femininely shaped robot was clothed with human skin so that she is not known to be robot. Such female robots are designed according to patriarchal stereotypes of a perfect woman, being sexy, dumb and obedient, and reflects the emotional frustrations of their creators.
Modern gynoids are often unique products made to fit a partial man’s desire and the creators are often male “mad scientists”. Gynoids have been described as the ultimate geek fantasy: a metat and plastic woman of your own.
Abhulimen further highlighted that gynoids are inextricably linked to men’s lust. They are mainly designed as sex-objects, having no use beyond, pleasing men’s violent sexual desires. Their character has been described as “a literal sex bomb”. They are produced as toy for men with an “implicate fantasy of a fully compliant sex machine in US and other countries” says the Unilag distinguished don.
Sex with gynoids has been compared to necrophilia. Sexual interest in gynoids and fembots has been attributed to fetishisation of technology, and compared to Sadomasochism in that it reorganizes the social risk of sex. The depiction of female robots minimizes the threat felt by men from female sexuality and allow the “erasure of any social interference in the spectator’s erotic enjoyment of the image”. Gynoid fantasies are produced and collected by on-line communities centered around chat rooms and web-site galleries.
