IKPEAZU PRESENTS STAFF OF OFFICE TO 29 EZES-ELECT
Twenty-nine Ezes-elect in Abia State were Tuesday, presented with staff of office as traditional rulers of their various Autonomous Communities by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
Presenting the staff of office, Ikpeazu charged them to maintain peaceful coexistence and internal security in their domains and to protect Government facilities in their communities.
According to the Governor, as custodians of culture and traditions in their communities they were to serve the interest and purposes of the poor and harmless people in their areas warning against subversive acts capable of bringing the traditional institutions to ridicule and disrepute.
He urged them to join forces with the Government to sensitize their subjects to be abreast with Covid-19 protocols pointing out that they were expected to align completely with the rules, policies and programmes of Government in order not to attract the wrath of the law.
In his speech, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Gabriel Onyendilefu said that the event was the climax of thorough selection process for traditional rulers of Autonomous Communities whose thrones were left vacant due to death of previous occupants.
Onyendilefu, who noted that the due process of selection was in line with the administration's policy of transparency, reminded the traditional rulers that, as expected they were to reside within their communities and ensure sustainable peace and growth of their communities in line with extant laws of the land.
Speaking on behalf of others, the Traditional Ruler of Ahiaba-Ubi autonomous community, Isiala Ngwa North, Eze (Dr.)Okezie Amalaha appreciated Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for the honour done of presenting them with the symbol of authority and pledged their unalloyed support to the Dr Okezie Ikpeazu led administration and ensure that peace and tranquility reign supreme in their domains.
ABIA ONLINE reports that the event, which took place at Michael Okpara auditorium, Umuahia, was graced by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem, Honourable Commissioners, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Permanent Secretaries, Chairman Abia Council of Traditional Rulers and principal officers among other dignitaries.
