The order that was made in France yesterday has reminded me of a post that I wanted to make a week or two ago.

Someone claimed that Manchester United only started winning titles when the Glazers bought the club and that they were successful because of the money that the Glazers pumped into the club. I thought that he was mad. The Glazers only bought the club in 2003!

I had known since the late 1970s that Manchester United was one of the 2 biggest clubs in England. United and Liverpool exchanged control of the English First Division, with other clubs popping up occasionally to win it. United had won the European Cup in 1968, while Liverpool had dominated English football in the 1970s and '80s. United took back control in the 1990s and capped it with a historic treble in 1999 and Liverpool seem to be starting another period of dominance. You only need to watch Love Thy Neighbour to know all about the rivalry between Man U and Liverpool in the 1970s.

This thought reminded me of the concept of national derbies and this was what I remembered.

Yesterday it was announced that PSG shirts have been banned in Marseille in order to maintain peace. Marseille are the first French team to win the Champions League (they won it in 1993) and PSG are playing in the Champions League final on Sunday.
