From JAMES OJO, Abuja Saturday, February 19 , 2011 Millions of Igbo people will today start a new cultural calendar year. It is the 1012 th of the Igu Aro ceremony, according to His Royal Majesty, Eze Obidiegwu Onyesoh, an engineer and the traditional ruler of the Nri community, the cradle of Igbo civilisation and spiritual headquarters of Igbo nation. The inauguration of a new year marks the beginning of a new planting season, and has always been marked with pomp and pageantry. Part of this year’s ceremony is the conferment of a traditional title on the special adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on power, Professor Bart Nnaji, who is also the chairman of the presidential task force on power. Nnaji, according to palace secretary, Chijioke Ifeka, “is being honoured with the high title of Aka Ji Oku Ndigbo, in recognition of his unflinching commitment to national development and the growth of science and technology worldwide.” Ifeka said that Nnaji has since 1983 awarded generous scholarships to over 400 Nigerians up to the doctoral level, adding that some of the beneficiaries are today serving high court judges and university lecturers in Nigeria and the United States, as well as corporate executives. The palace secretary also stated: “Nnaji’s patriotism saw him take up the risky challenge of building a 22 megawatt Abuja Emergency Power Plant in 2002 , which supplied uninterrupted and quality power for three years to the state house, corporate headquarters of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, International Conference Centre and the entire Central Business District of the Federal Capital Territory.” He observed that the success of the Abuja Emergency Power Plant caused Nnaji to start the more challenging task of building the 140 megawatt Aba Integrated Power station, scheduled to commence commercial production this year. “Despite becoming distinguished professor of engineering in 1983 , at the University of Massachusetts and ALCOA Foundation professor of
